Hybrid (Remote + In-Person) Position Summary The Academic & Access Program Director leads academic support, college advising, and postsecondary preparation for students in grades 9-12. This role focuses on academic intervention, college exploration, standardized test preparation, financial aid guidance, and individualized support throughout the college application process. The Academic & Access Program Director also exposes students to competitive internships, enrichment programs, and pre-college opportunities, supporting them through applications for programs such as The Woods Project, EMERGE, and A Thousand Summers. Work Schedule Attend program 5 days per week during the school year after school Monday through Friday at Hogg Middle School Attend weekly staff meetings virtually and in person every Monday Provide programming 1-2 Saturdays per month (college bootcamp sessions, mentor events, essay support, college campus tours) Additional hours may be required during peak seasons such as the summer college bootcamp and fall application deadlines. Key Responsibilities 1. Academic Instruction & Intervention Support Lead daily academic programming that includes grade tracking, organization skills, planner use, and homework support. Provide or coordinate individual and small-group tutoring aligned with student needs. Direct and monitor student preparation for the SAT/ACT using Khan Academy and coordinate professional instructors to lead small-group test preparation sessions for 11th-grade students. Track academic progress weekly and lead interventions for students at risk of failing or falling behind. Support students with learning differences, English language support needs, or school-based academic concerns, acting as a liaison between school staff and families. 2. Postsecondary Access & Admissions Support Support students in academic planning and personal development while delivering curriculum on major exploration, career pathways, and postsecondary planning. Guide students in building and refining college lists using platforms such as SchooLinks. Provide individualized support for college essays and Common App/ApplyTexas submission. 3. Enrichment, Internships & Summer Opportunities Expose and support students' applications to competitive internships, pre-college programs, leadership institutes, and summer opportunities aligned with their interests. Guide students through deadlines, recommendations, essays, interviews, and other application requirements. Lead academic staff with designing and delivering summer academic curriculum and attend summer camp. Coordinate communication with partner organizations such as The Woods Project, EMERGE, CareerSpring, Momentum, and A Thousand Summers and track student application progress and placements. 4. Financial Aid & Postsecondary Transition Guide students and families through FAFSA, TASFA, and CSS Profile. Support scholarship searches, award letter interpretation, and financial planning for college. Assist students exploring alternative pathways (trade programs, community college, apprenticeships). 5. Student & Family Support Provide timely communication regarding academic standing, testing requirements, deadlines, and application milestones. Partner with families and school counselors; attend teacher meetings when needed. Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and interventions. 6. Operations & Administration Attend staff meetings and support program and fundraising events. Supervise and support Academic Coordinator(s) to ensure strong program implementation and student support. Maintain detailed access and academic data including application milestones, internship placement updates, and summer programs participation. Work collaboratively with all staff, HISD personnel, SEA, volunteers, and community partners. Contribute to a strong, positive, student-centered team culture. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred. Experience with college access and/or working with first-generation and low-income students strongly preferred. Knowledge of HISD, college admissions, and financial aid systems. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
