The Educational Guidance Counselor, Correction Education with the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Muncy offers you the chance to make a real difference each day. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on helping inmates identify and work toward their educational and career goals. It supports successful reentry by guiding students through academic planning, skill building, and program participation. As an Educational Guidance Counselor, Correction Education, you will perform the following duties:
New Inmate Orientation:
Provide clear guidance on educational requirements and available programs
Educational Counseling:
Interview inmates to identify goals and support career development and post education planning
Testing and Placement:
Administer and score assessments, interpret results, and recommend appropriate class placements
Record Management:
Maintain accurate educational records and monitor student attendance and class enrollment
Program Coordination:
Work with educational staff to update rosters, support graduation events, and address student progress issues
Resource Requests:

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,156.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and four years of paraprofessional experience in education, social work, or counseling; or Two years of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling, and a bachelor's degree in the social sciences, behavioral sciences, education, social work, counseling, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes one year of professional experience in educational guidance and educational counseling.
Special Requirements:
This position is assigned to an institution that houses state mandated school-age students and requires a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. When no candidates possess the named certifications, the selected candidate must be eligible for an Emergency Permit issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education that is appropriate to the position. This is an institution that houses state mandated school-age students An employee hired based on eligibility for an Emergency Permit must obtain a valid and active Educational Specialist 1 or Educational Specialist 2 certification in the field of elementary or secondary school guidance or school counseling issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Other Requirements:
