Master's Degree Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate in School Counseling
REPORTS TO
Building Principal
GENERAL SUMMARY
To provide a comprehensive guidance program for all students. Consult with teachers, parents, and staff to enhance their effectiveness in helping students. Provide support to other educational programs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an advocate for children. Provide counseling to individuals and small groups as needed to help them in meeting their educational, vocational, personal and social needs. Conduct developmentally appropriate classroom guidance sessions in concordance with classroom teachers to aid in teaching the life skills curriculum standards and essential learning. Consult and serve as a resource to teachers, administrators, and parents in helping promote a better understanding of individual behavior and human relationships including, but not limited to, brain compatibility, personality types, and learning styles. Provide a comprehensive career-life planning program for all students including administering appropriate assessments, interpreting data, maintaining portfolios in grades 9-12, and assisting with school-to-work implementation. Counsel individuals and groups of students in educational planning based on academic and career interests, experiences, and abilities. Assist in the development of personalized learning plans for each students. Refer students and families to special programs, specialist and/or community agencies when appropriate. Coordinate activities or programs designated by the principal that serve to promote the social and academic well-being of students such as orientations, drug and alcohol prevention, career fairs, etc. Other duties as assigned by the administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
