Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a minimum of a Master's Degree or higher in school guidance/counseling, grades K-12, in guidance by the State Teacher Certification Board Completed Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training Experience in special education preferred
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The primary role of the Special Education Counselor is to support students from early childhood through twelfth grade who qualify for special education services by implementing services outlined in a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Through collaboration with staff, families, and students, the Special Education Counselor works to enhance students' social, emotional, and behavioral functioning in order to promote academic success, positive relationships, and overall student achievement.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Connect with students EC-12th grade in special education with educational, emotional, social, and behavioral needs Communicate and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders; students, parents, colleagues, agencies, etc. Service IEPs; develop IEP goals and progress monitor, along with attending IEP meetings Provide evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies Conduct counseling services; individual and group counseling services Facilitate and implement social skills groups Deliver services to promote generalization of social skills, coping skills, and problem-solving skills in various settings; i.e. lunchroom, classrooms, recess, etc. Participate on multi-disciplinary service teams Facilitate meetings with staff and families, including trainings Follow federal program guidelines as directed by the district and state/federal regulations Follow the mission and vision statement of the Lennox School District, along with the implementation of district policies and the Strategic Plan Follow the code of ethics of the district, state, and American School Counselors Association Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and/or Superintendent Position Open Until Filled
