Job Description

About Lipscomb Academy Join Lipscomb Academy's Christ-centered community as a High School Academic Counselor and help guide students toward purposeful, college-preparatory pathways that nurture both academic and spiritual growth. You will partner with students, families, and faculty to provide comprehensive academic, emotional, and college counseling, supporting the whole student—mind, body, and spirit. We prepare students for meaningful lives through rigorous academics and spiritual formation—and we seek counselors who model Christ-like professionalism and joy in their calling. The Opportunity Lipscomb Academy is seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable Upper School Academic Counselor who is passionate about supporting adolescents in their academic, personal, and spiritual journeys. You will empower students to set and achieve academic goals, navigate course selection, and prepare for postsecondary success, while also providing emotional support and guidance through the challenges of high school life—all within a Christian worldview. What You Will Do Provide individualized academic counseling to students in grades 9-12, including course selection, graduation planning, and academic goal setting. Offer emotional support counseling, helping students navigate stress, anxiety, peer relationships, and personal challenges with empathy and confidentiality. Collaborate with faculty to identify and support students' academic, social, and emotional needs. Develop and deliver workshops on topics such as high school course choices and college planning. Maintain accurate student records and monitor academic progress, intervening proactively when concerns arise. Serve as a liaison between students, families, teachers, and administration to ensure holistic support. Facilitate testing such as ACT, PSAT, and AP testing. Integrate Biblical principles and Christ-like character into counseling practices and school life. Contribute to school culture through advisory, clubs, events, and service-learning opportunities. Stay current on best practices in academic, emotional, and college counseling, as well as adolescent development. Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all counseling interactions. What You Bring As a Christian independent school affiliated with the Churches of Christ, Lipscomb Academy seeks counselors who can support and model the school's mission and values. Candidates should be willing to participate in spiritual life activities and mentor students in faith and character. Bachelor's degree in School Counseling, Education, Psychology, or related field (Master's preferred). Valid Tennessee school counseling license (or eligibility within a defined timeline). Demonstrated experience in academic, emotional support, and college counseling at the secondary level. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Proficiency with student information systems (SIS), college/career planning platforms, and Google Workspace. Commitment to ongoing professional growth and collaboration.
