PRIMARY PURPOSE
Plan, implement, and evaluate the District's comprehensive program guidance, including
counseling services in area assignment. Use a planning process to define needs and priorities
population served. Provide a proactive, developmental guidance program for all students to
maximize personal growth, development, and post-secondary opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS
EducationCertification:
Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling
Valid Texas counselor's certificate
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) required
Special Education Certification preferred
Special KnowledgeSkills:
Knowledge counseling procedures, student appraisal, and preparation for post-secondary
opportunities and development
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to speak Spanish preferred
Experience:
Three years teaching experience
Special Education teaching experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Program Management
. Effectively plan and implement the District's balanced comprehensive counseling
program which includes Guidance Curriculum, Responsive Services, Individual Planning,
and System Support components.
. Collaborate with school personnel, students, parents, and the community to plan
implement, evaluate, and promote continuous improvement a developmental guidance
and counseling program.
. Evaluate and promote continuous improvement the balanced comprehensive
developmental guidance and counseling program.
GuidanceCounseling
. Plan structured lessons to deliver individual counseling and group counseling sessions
in accordance with students' developmental needs and IEP goals andor objectives

. Provide guidance to individuals and groups students that facilitate the development of
educational goals and a post-secondary awareness plan.
. Assist teachers in understanding student behavior and socialemotional needs as they
relate to classroom learning and the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
. Assist in conferences with teacher-student, teacher-parent, and teacher-student-parent.
. Use accepted theories and effective techniques to promote career, educational, personal,
and social development students.
CoordinationStudent Assessment
. Coordinate people and other resources in the school, home, and community to promote
student success.
. Complete Counseling Assessments for counseling services and Threat Assessments as
required.
. Interpret test results and other assessment data to guide students in individual goal
setting and planning.
. Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and other documents required.
. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board Education rule,
and local board policy in the area guidance and counseling.
. Write appropriate counseling goals and objectives, and attend any staffings and ARD
meetings.
. Maintain and update progress reports.
Professional Behavior
. Demonstrate professionalism, including a commitment to professional development.
. Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
. Establish and maintain professional relationships with administrators, teachers, other
school personnel, parents, and community members.
. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission the school district.
Student Management
. Develop and maintain effective relationships with students and parents.
. Facilitate adjustment new students to school.
. Assist students in understanding appropriate behavior and behavior management skills at
the elementary school level.
Consultation
. Consult with school personnel, parents, and other community members to promote
understanding student development, individual behavior, the student environment, and
human relationships.

. Collaboratively provide professional expertise to advocate for individual students and
specific groups students.
. Serve as a member the campus student support team and campus crisis team.
. Demonstrate awareness district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those
identified needs.
. Articulate the District's mission and goals in the area counseling to the community and
solicit support in realizing the mission.
. Adhere to legal standards including school board policies.
. Adhere to state, district, and campus standards, regulations, and procedures.
. Shows commitment to current professional standards competence and practice.
. Promote and follow ethical standards for school counselors.
. Demonstrate professional and responsible work habits.
. Use professional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
. Perform any other duties assigned.
