Job Description
Spokane Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates who are prepared and excited to provide a 21st century learning environment that effectively addresses the emerging necessity of social emotional supports and blending learning strategies.

2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR Benefits--Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays. For students in all grades: Provide personal, social, academic, and college and career guidance. Provide referrals for individual and family counseling to outside resources. Provide classroom guidance activities. Support individual and whole school crisis intervention. Monitor and adjust class schedules to ensure enrollment in most appropriate courses. Ensure all students have access to a comprehensive school counseling program. Communicate with parents/guardians. Facilitate, coordinate, and manage the 504 process. Coordinate student conferences with staff and family members. Monitor achievement of students and work collaboratively with staff to provide appropriate interventions. Provide information to parents/guardians regarding student progress when requested. Provide support and information for students who are transitioning to a different setting. Coordinate student registration. Collaborate with staff in identifying students who need special programs and facilitate that placement. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the building principal/designee. Work with students on the development of leadership skills. Collect and analyze achievement, discipline and school climate data in order to promote student achievement and engagement. Be acquainted with and provide information, resources and leadership around cultural competency as it relates to student achievement and engagement. Be acquainted with and provide information, resources and leadership around bullying and harassment as it relates to student achievement and engagement. Knowledge of elementary, middle and high school pathways to support student's successful transition to high school level. Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification at the residency certification or professional certification level. Knowledge of the curriculum and of unique student characteristics at the middle school level. Ability to interpret test results to students, parents, and teachers. Demonstrate ability to conduct effective individual, small group, and classroom guidance/counseling activities with students. Demonstrated ability to assist students and family to help locate community resources. Demonstrated ability to communicate with all stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with school staff. Demonstrated ability to work with the public, such as community groups, volunteers, etc. Knowledge of district policies and procedures pertaining to student rights and responsibilities, student records, attendance, confidentiality, and special programs. Ability to assist in the general operation of the school as a member of the school staff. Demonstrated familiarity with, and successful implementation of culturally relevant counseling strategies. Demonstrated success in working with students on appropriate prevention/intervention strategies. Knowledge of laws relating to child abuse and neglect and ability to effectively intervene. Demonstrated success in developing and implementing elementary to middle school transition programs, including elementary to middle and middle to high school. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with staff. Demonstrated familiarity with, and successful implementation of, restorative practice strategies. Knowledge of a comprehensive school counseling model and how it is implemented in the school setting. Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs. When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension. Employees can also participate in voluntary savings programs to increase retirement savings such as the DRS Deferred Compensation Program or by participating in a 403(b) retirement plan through the District's plan manager, OMNI.
