Maximum Salary:

Location:
45 minutes from Casper where many Wyoming High School state activities are held each year. 3 hours from Denver Colorado where you can catch a professional game or spend the weekend. Purpose Statement The job of Counselor
  • Special Education is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibility for managing the schedules and placement of assigned students; appropriately addressing emotion/behavioral/social concerns of children qualified to receive assistance from the special education program; identifying student who are 'at-risk' in meeting graduation requirements; using problem solving strategies to provide necessary support; participating in multi-disciplinary teams; monitoring, tracking, and modifying graduation plans/special education programs; providing course curriculum, information and recommendations to students and parents; and assisting in the development of goals and plans for educational completion.
Essential Functions Advocates for children and families (e.g. social agency contacts/ local education agencies/classroom instructors/, etc.) for the purpose of providing family and student resources and developing individualized plans that improve options for successful graduation. Collaborates with school personnel and local education agencies for the purpose of mobilizing needed resources for improved student behavior and student learning. Conducts student/parent/staff interviews and surveys for the purpose of determining potential barriers to successful completion of graduation requirements. Conducts diagnostic testing serving as back-up to school psychologist for the purpose of providing appropriate support to staff. Consults with teachers, special education personnel, parents, Special Education Director (e.g. implementing a variety of special services, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring provision of special services. Counsels students, parents, and guardians (e.g. 'at risk', orientation, academic and aptitude testing, peer relationships, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing student learning and student success in school. Maintains a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, student behavior, home visit assessments, activities, correspondence, behavior audits, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, as required by law, school district policy, and administrative regulation. Monitors students' progress for the purpose of identifying issues and taking appropriate action for increasing student learning and student success. Participates in a variety of committees and teams (e.g.
MDT, IEP
Team, case management, etc.) for the purpose of responding to requests of case managers/diagnostician/school psychologist/special education director. Provides counseling activities (e.g. counseling/coaching activities as prescribed by IEP, wrap around parent support weekly, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring completion of IEP recommendations, supplemental and necessary student counseling designed to improve student learning. Researches transition planning (e.g. working with middle school staff, consulting with other education professionals, etc.) for the purpose of preparing students for high school matriculation. Reviews graduation rates/indicator reports (e.g. with instructors and administration, etc.) for the purpose of identifying trends and practices that effectively assist students in completing graduation requirements. Serves as supplemental provider of direct counseling (e.g. counseling/coaching activities, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction, support, and assistance to designated students. Supports staff (e.g. counseling certified and classified personnel, providing backup for Nurse when appropriate, etc.) for the purpose of providing networking, support, analysis and solutions to issues.
Education:
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Certificates and Licenses Wyoming PTSB Teaching Certification Must hold or be eligible for counseling certification through PTSB For additional information:
