Job Description
Job Description The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Counselor Student II (Assistant Director for Upward Bound) . The Assistant Director for Upward Bound plays a key leadership role in the coordination and implementation of services that support the academic and personal development of program participants. The Assistant Director assists in the day-to-day operations of the federally funded TRIO Upward Bound programs, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and alignment with grant objectives. This position supports first-generation, low-income high school students to prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of academic year and summer program services, including tutoring, mentoring, advising, cultural enrichment, and college readiness activities. Develop and maintain relationships with target high schools, administrators, counselors, and community partners to support recruitment and program delivery. Support the planning and execution of the annual summer residential program, including supervision of summer student staff and coordination of transportation, housing, meals, and classroom instruction. Provide academic, career, college, and financial aid advising to a caseload of Upward Bound participants. Maintain accurate and confidential student records and ensure regular communication with participants and families. Monitor academic progress and develop individualized action plans to support student achievement. Maintain accurate records in compliance with U.S. Department of Education guidelines. Assist with preparation of annual performance reports (APR), data tracking, and assessment of program outcomes. Utilize student information systems and other data tools to monitor student progress and program impact. Other duties as assigned. (Annual Salary:
$43,890 - $56,451) Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education or a related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
