ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The preceding duties are examples of the types of work performed by employees assigned to this job classification. Carries out the services of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) by assisting individuals with intellectual disabilities (a.k.a. Consumers) obtain and maintain employment in the community that is consistent with their vocational goals. Individuals must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. The following are the necessary duties to be performed: Engages Consumers and establishes trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings with other workers who do not necessarily have disabilities. Assists Consumers in working at regular jobs of their choosing. Conducts job development and job search activities directed toward positions individualized to the interests and uniqueness of each Consumer, following the principles and procedures of IPS Supported Employment. Conducts a minimum of three new employer contacts per week.
Employer contacts are designed to:
Learn about the needs of the business Describe supports offered by Ability Counts, Inc. Highlight Consumer strengths relevant to the position Tracks all employer contacts and reports outcomes and status to the Management Team. Provides individualized follow-along support to assist Consumers in maintaining employment. Develops an Individual Employment Plan and writes a Job Support Plan with the Consumer, Counselor, and family members. Adjusts employment plans according to the Consumer's needs and preferences. Provides education and support to employers or business customers, including negotiating job accommodations and providing ongoing follow-up contact.
Provides timely interventions:
Returns Consumer phone calls within 24 hours Visits employers regarding job loss or problems within 24 hours Follows up on job leads within 48 hours Meets with Consumers within one week prior to job start and within three days after job start Participates in monthly meetings with Department of Rehabilitation or Inland Regional Center Counselors to coordinate services and complete all required paperwork and forms. Communicates with Ability Counts Accounting office and provides documentation for funding and accurate billing. Spends at least 40% of scheduled work hours in the community (e.g., employer worksites, local coffee shops, libraries, family homes, meetings with Consumers and potential employers). Keeps up to date with Individual Placement procedures. Assists Consumers in understanding their benefits (e.g., SSI, Medicaid) and how employment may affect them, enabling informed decision-making. Identifies a wide variety of workplace supports; addresses employer concerns and negotiates resolutions; monitors DOR Consumer progress; and writes clear and concise reports. Responsible for a minimum of 5 new job starts per year. Completes and maintains accurate Individual Records for each Consumer. Develop, review, and update IHSPs in accordance with required timelines.
Maintains IP case files up to date and in accordance with funding and regulatory agencies. Conducts regular case notes documenting services provided, progress, and any life events. Coordinates with Job Coaches to monitor on-the-job performance and support needs. Ensures authorizations, funding, and service levels align with current placements. Monitors attendance, hours worked, and service utilization for compliance and billing accuracy. Addresses issues related to job retention, behavior, or workplace accommodations promptly. Facilitates transitions between programs (e.g., SEP to IP or Day Program) with proper documentation. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to support Consumer success. Conducts mandated annual training; attends workshops, webinars and meetings when available.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other duties as assigned. Works independently and as a team. Supervisory responsibilities to consumers assigned Maintains confidentiality and follows all agency policies and regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years' experience working with Individual Placement Consumers; Associates Degree, other education in mental health, social services, or business or closely related field; or a combination of experience and education. Experience providing employment services to individuals with intellectual disabilities are preferred. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to be a self-starter, while working as an effective team player. Proficient in reading, writing and math skills; proficient in office software's, Google applications, and Case Magic software programs. Excellent communication, grammar and interpersonal skills. Valid California driver's license and driving record acceptable to insurance companies. CPR and First Aid certificate required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Experience and knowledge of Individual Placement paperwork and procedures. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common, technical documents; represent the company in a professional manner to top management and public; speak effectively before groups.
Skilled in problem solving matters that may arise and create solutions; basic mathematical skills and operations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception; hand and finger dexterity. Duties and responsibilities performed normally do require physical requirements including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and carrying, pushing, pulling and occasional lifting of material up to 30 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Spends 65% or more of scheduled work hours in the community. For example, meets the Consumer in the community locations such as at the employer's worksite, local coffee shop, library, family home, meeting with potential employers. The rest of the time the C.E. Specialist works in an office environment. Works well under pressure of deadlines. May be exposed to a warehouse environment;exposed to various chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, heat, cold, wind and seasonal changes in climate.
COMPENSATION
$21.00- $25.00 per hour The above range is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
