ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING ILS INSTRUCTORS FOR THE FOLSOM, ORANGEVALE, AND SOUTH SACRAMENTO AREAS ONLY. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO PROVIDE SERVICES IN ONE OR MORE OF THESE LOCATIONS.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to support individuals with mild intellectual and developmental disabilities, including Autism. The primary role is to teach practical life skills that help individuals become more independent in daily life. Most of the individuals we serve do not have severe behavioral challenges and have strong potential to become partially or fully independent. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys coaching, teaching, and empowering others, rather than providing hands-on caregiving. This position focuses on building confidence, independence, and real-world skills in home and community settings. Key Responsibilities / Duties Teach independent living skills, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, personal organization, hygiene, and time management Support individuals in money management, shopping, meal planning, and basic household tasks Assist clients in building community awareness, including using transportation, attending appointments, and navigating public spaces Encourage problem-solving, decision-making, and self-advocacy Promote independence by guiding clients step-by-step rather than doing tasks for them Support individuals in social skills, communication, and appropriate community behavior Provide coaching during community outings and home-based skill-building sessions Track progress, collect basic data, and complete session notes/documentation Collaborate with families, service coordinators, and team members to support client goals Ensure client safety, professionalism, and respectful support at all times Experience & Qualifications High School Diploma or GED (required) Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, Autism, or similar populations preferred Experience in teaching life skills, coaching, mentoring, education, caregiving, or social services is a plus Comfortable supporting individuals with mild intellectual disabilities who have strong potential for independence Familiarity with life skills training, behavior support strategies, or person-centered coaching is helpful Strong communication skills, patience, and professionalism required Basic documentation and phone/computer skills required Knowledge of the Sacramento area preferred Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred (for community-based services) Why This Role Matters This position offers a meaningful opportunity to empower individuals to live more independent, confident, and fulfilling lives.
