JOB DESCRIPTION
The Supported Employment Specialist and mentor at Soul Dogs Inc. plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive support to individuals seeking job training, vocational development, and assistance in achieving their goals through person centered practices. This pivotal role is more than just guiding careers—it's about igniting possibility. You'll weave together vocational expertise, dedicated mentorship, and compassionate support to empower individuals, helping them navigate new paths, build essential skills, and achieve breakthroughs that transform their lives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
: Superior documentation and tracking: Maintain accurate records of interactions, achievements, and challenges to inform ongoing support. Teaching such concepts as compliance, attendance, task completion, problem solving, professionalism, and safety that are associated with performing compensated work. Assist the participant in completing provided specialized trainings Follow participants' Service Plan and DVR goals (if applicable). Continuously monitor progress toward individualized goals and adjust support plans as needed. Transportation for participants utilizing own vehicle as needed. Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with IDD, promoting their inclusion and active participation in the community. Accompany clients to their designated job sites, ensuring they have a smooth transition into their work environments. Be able to perform coaching supports in the environments where our clients are employed: retail space, office space, warehouse, grocery, food service, inside/outside, hot/cold, loud/quiet, etc. Develop and adapt activities to accommodate various client abilities and interests. Continuously monitor clients' progress in their jobs, providing additional coaching and assistance as needed to ensure job retention and career advancement. ​​Build and maintain relationships with local employers to create job openings and foster an inclusive work environment for our clients Provide one-on-one mentorship and support, helping clients develop life skills, social skills, and independence Facilitate opportunities for clients to participate in community activities and develop social connections. Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including therapists, caregivers, and educators, to create and implement wrap-around plans that address clients' unique needs.
REQUIREMENTS
: BA in Education, SW, Psych or related field and 1 year human services experience; or AA in Education, SW, Psych or related field and 2 years human services experience; or No degree and 4 years human services experience preferred Experience supported employment services including job coaching preferred Compassion plus an ability to set limits/boundaries and follow through Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to remain patient and empathetic in challenging situations. Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural differences Proficiency in informal counseling techniques and the ability to provide compassionate, person-centered support. Comprehensive vehicle insurance and car that passes inspection Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, listen actively, interpret accurately & respond to a high volume of requests Supportive, kind, caring and willing to ensure environment is respectful and honest Initiative and flexibility Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong project/time management & organizational skills; detail oriented Clear Criminal Records Check Use of personal vehicle, phone, and computer for completion of job related tasks as needed (mileage reimbursement available) Completion of provided trainings and competency tests
