Job Description

SUMMARY In accordance with RNP's Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies, the Recovery Support Specialist provides peer support services for individuals and their families to effectively address the myriad of issues that those with substance abuse and mental health disorders require to support the recovery process by performing the following duties:
HOURS:
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
CORE FUNCTIONS
Provide recovery support through a self-directed, strength-based approach to care. Utilizes principles based on the Recovery Coach Ten Components of Recovery. Conduct outreach and follow-ups with individuals who have experienced opioid overdoses to connect them with treatment and recovery resources. Provide guidance on detox programs, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), peer support groups, and harm reduction services such as Narcan distribution. Collaborate with law enforcement and clinicians in responding to substance use-related incidents, offering real-time assistance and peer-based support. Participate in public awareness efforts, overdose prevention campaigns, and education initiatives aimed at reducing substance-related harm in Norwalk. Work closely with treatment centers, shelters, and recovery organizations to streamline access to services for those in need. Assist officers in identifying individuals at risk, providing recovery-oriented interventions, and reducing the burden of substance use-related calls. Provides on-call coverage for crisis intervention and stabilization. Assume all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.
CORE COMPETENCIES CCAR
Recovery Coach Academy completion required. Certification as a Recovery Support Specialist or willingness to obtain certification upon hire, strongly preferred. Two years of minimum lived experience in stable recovery required. Established expertise and practices related to professional boundaries and ethics. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships and project a professional image. Two years of minimum lived experience in stable recovery required. Must possess reliable transportation that is available solely to the Recovery Coach. The amount of local travel is 50% of the time. A valid Connecticut driver's license is required.
