The Burlington Community School District has been awarded a grant from Iowa Department of Education, STEM BEST Summer Real World Adventures to hire high school students as Information Technology Interns for Summer 2026. The internship program through BCSD is an on-the-job training and employment opportunity that will provide students an opportunity to apply their education and training into real-life work experience. The internships will be open to youth attending Burlington High School who have expressed an interest in one of the high demand career fields identified in our project. Students who participate will be paid an hourly rate, engage in career/college exploration activities, and earn a BHS Work Experience Credit.Qualifications:
Current Burlington High School Student Demonstrated interest in the career field. Past coursework, experience, or demonstrated basic skills in the career field. Based on the intent of the grant, preference will be given to underrepresented populations.Internship Responsibilities:
Complete 30 hours a week of on the job experience and assigned career/college exploration activities. (six weeks) Complete weekly reflection journals and weekly meetings with Internship Coordinator. Submit a final presentation the last week of employment in either a PowerPoint format or a 2-4 page essay which highlights the student's key projects and contributions, skills developed and reflections on the internship experience, including how it supported professional growth, career readiness and long-term career goals in the field of STEM.Information Technology Job Duties:
Prepare new Chromebooks for student use. Do summer maintenance on windows desktop computers. Assist tech staff with large summer projects. Repair Chromebooks.Position Type:
