Through a deep commitment to the needs of the immigrant communities on Chicago's southwest side, PODER provides critical societal and workforce integration services with both immediate and long-term impact for families, communities, and employers throughout the City of Chicago.Job Summary:
The Community Advisor supports the personal well-being, community connection, and overall success of PODER members through culturally responsive advising, wellness education, resource navigation, and supportive coaching. As part of PODER's Integration Team, the Community Advisor helps create a welcoming environment where members feel supported in overcoming barriers and achieving their personal, educational, and workforce goals. The Community Advisor provides 1:1 advising and facilitates workshops focused on wellness, self-advocacy, stress management, healthy habits, emotional resilience, and community resource access. The role emphasizes prevention, empowerment, and holistic support while helping members connect to trusted community resources and services when additional support is needed. This position is implemented in partnership with Brighton Park Neighborhood Council through a collaborative community support initiative designed to expand access to culturally responsive services for immigrant communities. The Community Advisor will provide services at both PODER and BPNC locations, including scheduled on-site support at BPNC two days per week and the remainder of the workweek at PODER. The role will coordinate closely with both organizations to strengthen referrals, workshops, and community engagement efforts. The Community Advisor is supervised by PODER's Integration Manager and works collaboratively with the broader Integration Team to ensure members receive holistic, community-centered support aligned with PODER's mission and values.Department Vision:
The Integration Team fosters a welcoming environment where all members and families feel supported, respected, and connected to community. Through a holistic approach to service delivery, the team helps members navigate challenges, build confidence, and access opportunities that support long-term personal, educational, and professional success. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Member Counseling & Case Management Responsibilities (80%) Maintain a flexible mid-afternoon/evening schedule, typically from 10:00 AM•6:00 PM, to support member accessibility and program needs. Provide 1:1 counseling and coaching to support members in achieving their employment, educational, and career goals. Services may include career exploration, goal setting, academic and workforce guidance, and overcoming barriers to participation or employment. Maintain an active caseload of approximately 25-30 members, ensuring consistent follow-up, engagement, and supportive case management throughout their participation in PODER programs. Build rapport and trusting relationships with members while assessing employment history, educational background, career interests, strengths, and barriers impacting long-term success. Assist members with job readiness and employment preparation activities, including: Resume and cover letter development Interview preparation Job search strategies Employer communication support Career pathway exploration Continuing education opportunities Facilitate workshops and group sessions related to workforce readiness, career development, and professional growth. Support members in utilizing technology and community resources for job search and workforce development activities. Research and share labor market information, including job openings, entry-level skill requirements, career pathways, and occupational trends relevant to member goals. Connect members to workforce development programs, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and supportive service providers through established referral partnerships. Provide ongoing follow-up and retention support for members enrolled in workforce programs or placed into employment, including documenting employment retention, wage progression, and benefit gains. Coordinate regularly with employers and workforce partners to assess the success and quality of employment referrals and member placements. Collaborate with PODER staff and integration team members to coordinate services, discuss member progress, and support holistic member success. Data Entry, Documentation & Reporting (20%) Maintain accurate and timely case notes, member records, and service documentation within PODER's Salesforce database system. Complete data entry, tracking spreadsheets, and internal reporting requirements using Salesforce, Excel, and other program management tools. Track member outcomes, milestones, employment placements, and program transitions, including collecting success stories and impact data. Ensure all client files, records, referrals, and documentation are organized, updated, and compliant with program and funder requirements. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and grant-related report completion to support program evaluation and organizational outcomes tracking. Understanding of holistic and strength-based support approaches Passion for serving immigrant and Latino/a/x communitiesPhysical Requirements:
•Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Salary commensurate with experience and a generous holiday schedule and flexible accrued PTO for vacation, personal and sick days.
