PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Outreach Specialist is responsible for efforts include locating, reaching out, and building trust/rapport with individuals and families experiencing homelessness wherever they stay or access services including emergency shelters, soup kitchens, on the streets, in homeless encampments, etc. This position is tasked with providing mental health services through developing coping strategies, harm reduction techniques, and referrals to local mental health providers while monitoring progress through various clinical assessments and tools. The Outreach Specialist's goal is to assist homeless individuals to accept care for their health and safety and assist them in becoming integrated into the community by accepting placement and stabilization opportunities to improve their lives. Applicants are encouraged to possess time management, organization, and conflict resolution skills.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Must have the following:
• Current and valid driver's license.
• Maintaining continuing education requirements specific to field and position.
• Must have the following: High School Diploma or GED

• Preferred Qualifications:

  Experience in a field related to mental health supportive services or serving individuals experiencing homelessness
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Knowledge of various clinical criteria related to issues confronting our consumers (i.e. mental health, substance abuse, housing)
• Knowledge of local service provider network (i.e. substance abuse treatment, mental health services, employment readiness services)
• Use Rules of Professional Ethics, Regulations and Confidentiality and apply to daily work situations
• Basic knowledge of Windows office systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook

WORK CONDITIONS

The Outreach Specialist has a designated office; but is expected to spend majority of day in the community serving consumers.

• Work does include community-based settings
• Expect to interact with staff and consumers to provide activities related to work such as conducting meetings as well as workshops
• May require prolonged sitting or standing
