Reporting to the Director of the LOC Workforce Development Program, this role is responsible for building and sustaining employer partnerships, expanding access to equitable employment opportunities, and supporting participants in successfully transitioning into and retaining employment. Aligned with La Plaza's mission to empower Latino communities and LOC's commitment to advancing long-term economic mobility, the Employment Advocate ensures that participants are not only prepared for employment, but are effectively connected to quality jobs that offer growth, stability, and long-term career advancement. Core Function of the Role Represent LOC externally with employers, workforce partners, and industry stakeholders Connect participants to employment opportunities aligned with their career pathways Support successful workplace integration and early-stage retention Promote equitable hiring practices and inclusive workforce pathways Key Responsibilities 1. External Representation & Employer Engagement Serve as liaison between LOC and employers across high-demand industries (e.g., healthcare, skilled trades, and others) Build, develop, and maintain strategic employer partnerships Represent LOC at state level employer meetings, hiring events, and community workforce initiatives Position LOC as a trusted and reliable talent pipeline partner 2. Job Placement & Talent Matching Identify and develop employment opportunities aligned with participant skills and career pathways Match participants to job openings based on readiness, interests, and long-term goals Coordinate referrals, interviews, and hiring processes in collaboration with employers Develop and manage talent pipelines to meet employer workforce needs 3. Workplace Transition & Retention Support Prepare participants for workplace expectations, culture, and performance standards Provide follow-up support during early employment stages to promote job retention Serve as a point of contact between participants and employers, as needed Support participants in navigating workplace challenges and adapting successfully 4. Work Readiness & Educational Workshops Facilitate workshops that strengthen participant readiness for employment, including:
  • Resume writing aligned with employer expectations
  • Interview preparation and mock interviews
  • Job search strategies
  • Workplace communication and professional etiquette
  • Digital literacy and workplace technology Reinforce real-world expectations based on employer feedback and labor market needs 5.
Labor Market Intelligence Monitor labor market trends, employer needs, and high-demand occupations in Central Indiana Provide insights to LOC staff to align coaching, training, and program strategies Identify emerging opportunities for employer partnerships and program expansion 6. Collaboration Work closely with the Director of the LOC Workforce Development Program to inform workforce strategies Collaborate with Employment Coaches to align participant readiness with job opportunities Partner with LOC staff to ensure a coordinated, participant-centered service approach Contribute to program strategy, continuous improvement, and team goals 7. Data & Program Accountability Track and report employment placements, retention outcomes, and employer engagement Maintain accurate participant and employer records in systems such as Salesforce, ETO, and other program tools Ensure alignment with grant requirements, performance metrics, and organizational goals Qualifications Required Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) Equivalent experience in workforce development, business, or related field Minimum of 3 years of experience in employer engagement, job placement, workforce development, or related field Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Preferred Bicultural and experience working with Latino or immigrant communities Bachelor's degree Experience working with employers in high-demand industries Experience organizing hiring events or workforce initiatives Core Competencies Strong relationship-building and networking skills Strategic thinking and partnership development Effective communication and negotiation skills Cultural responsiveness and advocacy mindset Strong organizational and time management skills Results-driven with ability to meet placement and partnership goals
