The coordinator provides individualized educational and career guidance, recruits and supports volunteer mentors, develops partnerships with schools and community organizations, facilitates youth programming, and helps participants successfully transition into higher education, vocational training, and employment. KRM-Covington provides holistic services, case management, and intentionally designed programming for refugee students and their families. In addition to more than 130 school-age clients currently eligible for school support services, we serve over 70 young adults eligible for educational, career, and social support services. These students and their families have varying levels of English proficiency with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. Through culturally responsive mentorship, leadership development, career readiness services, and postsecondary planning, the Youth Mentoring Coordinator empowers refugee youth to build confidence, strengthen community connections, and achieve educational and vocational goals. About Kentucky Refugee Ministries-Covington Founded in 1990 as a nonprofit agency in Louisville, Kentucky Refugee Ministries (KRM) is a local affiliate of Church World Service, one of nine national voluntary agencies authorized to provide resettlement services to refugees legally admitted to the United States through the State Departmentʼs Refugee Admissions Program. KRMʼs Lexington sub-office was founded in 1998; a Northern Kentucky office in Covington opened in November 2021. KRM assists refugees, Afghan evacuees, Cuban Entrants, and individuals from various countries who have been approved for asylum or are applying for asylum. KRM secures housing and medical care for clients and provides them with comprehensive case management including employment services, ESL and cultural orientation, and specialized programs for immigrant youth and elders, victims of crime, as well as arts and culture programming. The agency also offers citizenship classes for legal permanent residents preparing to apply for U.S. citizenship. KRMʼs Louisville office has an immigration legal services team that provides services to immigrants of all statuses. KRM staff do not engage in any religious messaging in connection to delivery of client services. Essential Duties and Tasks Youth Mentoring Program Management Coordinate all aspects of the Youth Mentoring Program in compliance with Kentucky Office for Refugees (KOR) guidelines and grant requirements. Recruit, enroll, and orient eligible refugee and immigrant youth participants. Develop individualized case plans with youth participants and monitor progress toward educational, career, and personal goals. Maintain regular contact with participants and families to support engagement and retention. Track participant outcomes and ensure accurate documentation in ClientTrack and other required databases. Monitor program benchmarks, performance measures, and grant deliverables. Mentor Recruitment, Training, and Support Recruit volunteer mentors through community outreach, employer partnerships, universities, faith communities, former volunteers, and cultural organizations. Conduct mentor interviews, screening, onboarding, and training. Coordinate background checks and ensure compliance with volunteer policies. Match mentors with mentees based on career interests, educational goals, cultural background, language needs, and personal interests. Facilitate mentorship launch meetings, establish expectations, and support goal-setting. Conduct regular mentor check-ins and provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and resources. Coordinate mentorship closure meetings and evaluate outcomes. Career Readiness and Postsecondary Planning Assist youth with career exploration, career pathway planning, and workforce readiness development. Provide support with resume development, interviewing skills, job applications, workplace expectations, and professional communication. Assist students with college applications, FAFSA completion, scholarship opportunities, financial aid processes, and postsecondary enrollment. Connect youth with vocational training programs, certification opportunities, apprenticeships, internships, and employment resources. Partner with employment staff to support youth employment placements and career advancement. Conduct follow-up with youth who secure employment or educational placements to support successful transitions. School and Community Partnerships Develop and maintain strong relationships with local school districts, English Learner staff, counselors, family resource centers, colleges, universities, and workforce development organizations. Collaborate with schools to identify students who may benefit from mentoring, educational support, and career readiness services. Coordinate referrals and facilitate communication among schools, families, mentors, and community partners. Participate in regional youth-focused educational and workforce initiatives. Expand partnerships with employers, vocational schools, apprenticeship programs, and higher education institutions. Youth Programming and Leadership Development Plan and facilitate monthly educational, career readiness, leadership, civic engagement, and social-emotional programming. Organize workshops, college visits, career fairs, employer tours, volunteer projects, and community engagement activities. Support the development of youth leadership opportunities and peer mentoring initiatives. Encourage youth participation in extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and leadership experiences. Promote positive youth development and a strong sense of belonging among participants. Participant Support Services Identify barriers affecting participation and success, including transportation, language access, financial constraints, family obligations, and educational challenges. Coordinate transportation assistance and referrals to community resources as needed. Connect participants with internal and external support services, including educational, workforce, housing, legal, and behavioral health resources. Administer scholarship and participant incentive programs in accordance with agency and funder policies. Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities Maintain accurate participant files, mentorship records, attendance documentation, and case notes. Prepare reports, outcome data, and program documentation required by funders and agency leadership. Monitor program budgets and track expenditures related to youth programming and participant support. Participate in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and community partner meetings. Ensure compliance with agency policies, confidentiality requirements, and federal, state, and local regulations. Job Requirements College degree required Demonstrated and verifiable direct services experience working collaboratively with children, youth, and parents Strong computer skills; including proficiency in MS Excel, Word and Google Suite Possesses reliable transportation to transport clients or perform offsite, after-hours duties as needed Teaching experience and previous cross-cultural experience preferred, particularly in a social service or educational setting Specialized Skills Ability to work with clients and staff of diverse nationalities, religions, languages, and cultures Passion for serving limited-English-proficient clients, particularly children and youth, and helping them obtain needed services and programming Strong presentation, oral and written communication skills Self-motivated; ability to develop and implement new and innovative projects Organized and detail-oriented; capacity to provide clear documentation of services Team-orientation; ability to work in coordination and close collaboration with KRM staff Strong outreach skills; ability to network with educational providers and community partners Patience and strong commitment to client care, while at the same time adhering to agency's mission of promoting client self-sufficiency Personal resiliency to endure stressful situations relating to client case management, or program implementation during peak caseload periods Commitment to ethical conduct, maintaining appropriate boundaries with clients, and respecting client autonomy Compensation and Benefits This is a full-time position, 40 hours a week. Compensation is commensurate with experience and background. Duties will be conducted primarily during normal business hours, with some evenings or weekends necessary (on a flextime schedule) to accommodate out-of-school-time activities or volunteer and student/family meetings.
