Job Description

Position The Career Specialist is an essential member of our Workforce Development program at the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan (Hispanic Center). The primary responsibilities include serving as an Employment and Training Case Manager and Career Coach for participants in Future Tech Careers grant programs. The Career Specialists will function within internal and external teams to deliver seamless services to the participant and to ensure that positive relationships are maintained resulting in the optimum employment outcome for participants. Responsibilities
  • Recruit qualified participants interested in GRCC Future Tech Careers workforce programs certification and/or securing job placement and/or upward job mobility within the manufacturing sector.
  • Complete new referral eligibility, intake including administering, scoring and reviewing employability and interest assessments.
  • Collaborate closely with the Future Tech Careers program network and GRCC to facilitate the enrollment of students in training sessions.
  • Provide career development coaching in accordance with program requirements, current labor market and employer demands, and participant's needs including but not limited to: accountability, positive reinforcement, and guidance.
  • Provide appropriate support and barrier removal services for participants, including referrals to internal and external resources, to assist in ensuring successful training and/or job placement.
  • Maintain accurate records of services provided to participants using various computer data systems i.e. intake forms, case noting, data entry, written progress reports.
  • Enter accurate and complete data in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively within the Workforce Development Department and other departments to ensure holistic approach.
  • Support clients in job applications through technical support, warm referrals to employers, resume building, and interview practice.
  • Connect positively with community agencies and employers serving as liaison for participant to ensure appropriate job matches.
  • Recruit participants for service delivery and employers for employer partners through participation in community outreach events and implementation of innovative awareness activities.
  • Provide support for Workforce Development Department navigation services for job searches, resume building, unemployment, labor disputes, etc. as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in human service or related field from an accredited institution or equivalent employment experience.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate in both verbal and written formats to meet position responsibilities. (Must be Bilingual in Spanish both oral and written).
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and individuals with socioeconomic challenges.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current employment practices and opportunities.
  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Preferred minimum 2 years' experience in Human Services, Human Resources or Workforce Development.
  • Preferred 2 years work experience with individuals with socioeconomic disadvantages.
Pay:
From $20.00 per hour
