JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Director of the Academic Advisement Center works to manage the advising staff's schedule, establish and maintain an advising mission, in discussion with the Director of Academic Advising, and helps to prepare ongoing training in university policies for academic advisors and faculty advisors. The Associate Director collaborates with others in the office to support the university's Orientation and Retention efforts. This will be accomplished through collaboration with the positions working on Orientation, First Year Retention, and Second Year Retention, and Athletes, as well as with other campus partners. This role will also strategically focus on the parents and other key support people for SVSU students. Additionally, this position will focus on many technological and behind-the-scenes efforts to ensure a positive student experience in all phases of transition to the university.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Advise assigned and other students on curriculum requirements, academic achievement, course scheduling, and university policies and procedures. Supervise and support the Coordinator of Orientation Programs, including: Consulting with the Coordinator throughout the student events planning process. Collaborating with the Coordinator of Orientation, First Year Retention Specialist, Second Year Retention Specialist, Athletic Advisor, and other staff to assist as needed with Fresh Start. Assisting with first year pre-registration during peak SOAR preparation. Managing all post-event advising related updates such as major changes, AP, etc. Responsible for development, implementation, and evaluation of Parent & Family programming at SOAR events, in collaboration with Coordinator of Orientation Programs and in line with their vision and structure of the student sessions. Collaborate with key campus stakeholders to provide a helpful range of topics and information to benefit the parents/support people of incoming students Oversee and manage all ongoing parent and family communication plans, including before and after SOAR events, and throughout the academic year. Demonstrate strong understanding of SVSU Catalog and academic degree programs. Serve as an academic advisor during all peak registration seasons and as much as possible throughout the year, in discussion with director. Utilize key student data systems such as Colleague, Slate, and Perceptive Content. Create or modify reports to access important data in Informer and Slate. Ensure the maintenance and timely update of all Student Planning Curriculum Tracks. Manage the Artificial Conversational Entity (currently Chatbot) software system as a strategic retention tool. Evaluate current retention activities and recommend appropriate strategies and resources necessary to achieve increased student retention in the second year and beyond to increase graduation rates. Participate in the retention initiatives of the Academic Advisement Center, and strategically partner with First Year Retention Specialist and Second Year Retention Specialist to maximize transition cohesion for incoming students. Serve as an adjunct faculty instructor for CT 100 when desired or needed. Facilitate the updating of Workday Student. Provide regular training for academic advisors and faculty advisors. In collaboration with the Director of Academic Advising, set a vision for advising on campus and set a mission for the center. Perform other duties as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVED

: Functional supervision is exercised over the Coordinator of Orientation Programs.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, or a related field. Five (5) years of experience in new student orientation, advising, or other student supported services. Supervisory experience. Experience in event management and day-of-event operations. Experience as an administrator or advisor in a college or university setting. Experience working with a Student Information System (Workday or Ellucian Colleague strongly preferred). Knowledge of SVSU Catalog and degree programs. Ability to work with diverse populations, various campus departments. Ability to assess programs/initiatives. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly. Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.WORKING CONDITIONS
