Job Description

Certified Peer Support Specialist Gastonia, NC 28052 $21.00 - $22.50 an hour - Full-time $21.00 - $22.50 an hour - Full-time The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) provides recovery-oriented support services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and other behavioral health challenges. Utilizing lived experience and recovery principles, the CPSS serves as a mentor, advocate, and recovery coach to assist individuals in achieving and maintaining wellness and recovery goals. Services are provided in accordance with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), State Opioid Response (SOR), and Mental Health (MH) program requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Peer Support and Recovery Services Provide individual and group peer support services using evidence-based and recovery-oriented practices. Share lived experiences appropriately to promote hope, recovery, self-determination, and empowerment. Assist individuals in developing personal recovery and wellness plans. Support participants in identifying strengths, goals, and barriers to recovery. Encourage engagement in treatment, recovery programs, and community support services. Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and SOR Services Assist individuals with opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders in accessing treatment and recovery resources. Provide education regarding recovery supports, harm reduction strategies, overdose prevention, and relapse prevention. Support participants transitioning from detoxification, residential treatment, inpatient care, correctional facilities, and emergency departments into community-based recovery services. Facilitate linkage to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), outpatient treatment, recovery housing, and peer-led recovery programs. Conduct outreach and engagement activities for individuals at risk of opioid overdose and substance misuse. Support SOR grant initiatives and ensure services align with grant objectives and reporting requirements. Mental Health Services Support individuals experiencing mental health challenges through peer mentoring and recovery support. Promote self-advocacy, coping skills, wellness strategies, and community integration. Assist participants in accessing behavioral health treatment, housing, employment, educational, and social support resources. Encourage participation in wellness and recovery-oriented activities. Care Coordination and Community Engagement Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams to support coordinated care. Assist individuals in navigating healthcare, behavioral health, and social service systems. Maintain positive working relationships with community partners and recovery support organizations. Participate in outreach events, recovery activities, and community education initiatives. Documentation and Compliance Complete timely and accurate documentation of services provided. Maintain confidentiality and comply with
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and agency policies. Collect and report required outcome data for SUD, SOR, and MH programs. Participate in supervision, training, and quality improvement activities. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Current Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) credential in good standing. Minimum of one year of sustained recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges. Knowledge of recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and person-centered practices. Strong communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Knowledge of community resources, recovery systems of care, and behavioral health services. Experience providing outreach, engagement, and recovery support services. Familiarity with State Opioid Response (SOR) program requirements and recovery-oriented systems of care. Physical Requirements Ability to travel within the service area. Ability to facilitate groups and community-based activities. Ability to maintain documentation and utilize electronic health records. Work Environment Services may be provided in outpatient clinics, community settings, recovery centers, schools, hospitals, correctional settings, participants' homes, and other community-based locations. Supervision The Certified Peer Support Specialist reports to the Program Supervisor and receives ongoing supervision consistent with certification and program requirements.
