Business Unit Bismarck State College Location Bismarck Posted 06/25/2026 Full/Part Time Full-Time Department Advising Close Date 07/08/2026 Add to My Favorite Jobs Email this Job Position Description & Details Bismarck State College is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Academic Advisor to join our team under the Title III Grant initiative. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting current students with scheduling, understanding program requirements, and navigating the course registration process. This role involves acting as a liaison between campus departments and external institutions regarding transfer trends and specific transfer issues. The advisor will also engage in strategies to support students on academic warning, probation, and those reapplying after suspension, ensuring their success and retention.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist current students with scheduling, program requirements, and course registration procedures. Act as a liaison between campus departments and outside institutions regarding transfer trends and specific transfer issues. Develop and implement advising strategies to support students on academic warning, probation, and those reapplying for admission after suspension. Conduct outreach to target groups of current students in collaboration with other campus departments to enhance registration, retention, and graduation rates. Provide academic advising support during student registration events for new, returning, and transfer students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, business, counseling, or related field and two years of related experience. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Good computer software skills - Microsoft Office, email, and electronic calendar, and good keyboarding skills. Sensitivity to cultural diversity and an understanding of minority-related educational issues. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work with and present to diverse groups of individuals and good customer relationship skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in education, business, counseling, or related field. Experience in a similar position in higher education.
