Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary The Student Assistant for Fowler School of Engineering (FSE) Career Services will support the Manager of Career Services with administrative support for career and student success-related resources, programs, and events. Through preparation and coordination, the assistant will support various workshops, presentations, and events, and work on assigned projects. Additionally, the assistant will provide administrative and marketing support to FSE career and internship services including the Chapman Engineering Student Accelerator (CESA) program, career-related events, student outreach, data collection and entry, and reporting. This role requires the individual to be a self-starter, go-getter, expert in customer service, and proactive with the ability to coordinate and execute assignments independently and within a team environment.
Responsibilities Guide Fowler School of Engineering students to available resources for resume writing, career resources, job searching techniques, LinkedIn, and other career-related inquiries
Support the preparation and execution of workshops for students on resume writing, cover letter writing, job search, and other resources and strategies
Prepare and provide administrative support to coordinate events and career programming using campus project management software and tools
Operate Handshake, Chapman's Career Portal, in an administrative capacity to make student appointments, answer general questions, and assist in other administrative functions
Schedule and support logistics for classroom presentations and speaking engagements
Manage time and prioritization of daily assignments, and long-term projects that contribute to career services and student success
Learn and develop skills in advising students on resume writing, career resources, job searching strategy, career assessments, and any other relevant career education tools
Take meeting minutes as necessary, provide feedback, and contribute to career-related events, projects, and initiatives
Communicate and deliver exceptional service to employers, external partners, and all career-related inquiries
Work with the FSE student population to gather data, and feedback, and collect surveys to measure effectiveness
Create marketing campaigns and materials for FSE career-related items under the direction of the supervisor
Learn and support commonly used software and online tools (training will be provided as needed)

Required Qualifications Current Chapman University student pursuing a bachelor's degree
Availability to work up to 19 hours per week (these hours may vary depending on event and programming needs) through May 2027
Availability to work some evenings and weekends to support FSE and Chapman events and programs (dates will be provided in advance)
Ability to meet frequently with supervisor(s) and take instruction/direction
Organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload and carry them out promptly to meet deadlines and shifting priorities
Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with students, staff, faculty, leadership, campus partners, and diverse constituencies
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to convey accurate information professionally, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels
Strong commitment to customer service, collaboration, and team success
Critical thinking skills with the ability to problem-solve, learn, and make decisions that are consistent with, and in support of, school goals and objectives in accordance with university policy
Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Strong technical skills to learn and use enterprise systems needed for the position including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Teams), Windows Operating System
Desired Qualifications Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program for education, business, communications, marketing, or psychology
Upper-classman standing
Ability to work Fall 2024 semester
Interest/experience in higher education, school counseling, or career services
Prior experience in mentoring peer advising, or teaching assistance
Prior experience working in an administrative or office setting
