Job Overview:
Our Job Corps Program, located in the Brooklyn, New York, is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Classroom Monitor to join our educational team. The Classroom Monitor will play a vital role in fostering a safe and productive learning environment for young adults. This position involves taking attendance, supervising students in a classroom setting, and providing translation support for students with low English proficiency. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills and experience working with young adults.
Key Responsibilities:
Attendance Management:
Accurately take and maintain daily attendance records.
Classroom Supervision:
Monitor and support young adults in the classroom to ensure safety, engagement, and appropriate behavior.
Translation Support:
Provide translation and clarification of instructions and materials for students with limited English proficiency.
Collaboration:
Work closely with classroom instructors to support lesson plans and overall educational goals.
Behavior Management:
Promote positive behavior and address issues in a constructive, supportive manner.
Resource & Supply Support:
Distribute classroom supplies and assist students with accessing learning materials.
Classroom Environment:
Create and maintain bulletin boards and visual displays that support learning and engagement.
Event Support:
Assist with the setup and coordination of classroom or program-related events and activities.
Administrative Support:
Perform light administrative duties such as filing, basic data entry, and organizing program materials as needed.
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with young adults in an educational or mentoring capacity. Proficiency in English and at least one other language (preferably the language spoken by the students needing translation). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and staff. Patience, empathy, and a passion for helping students succeed academically and socially. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Preferred Skills Familiarity with classroom management techniques. Experience in educational settings that serve diverse populations. Knowledge of instructional strategies that support English language learners.
Salary:
20.00-25.00/hour
