Job Description
Peer Recovery Specialist
- Hornell IP Clinic Full Time (40 hours per week)
Schedule:
Sunday, 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday 12:30pm to 9:00pm.Location:
7309 Seneca Rd N Hornell, NY 14843 (Must have lived experience with substance use disorder (SUD) and be in sustained recovery) The Peer Recovery Specialist provides non-clinical, peer-based recovery support to individuals receiving treatment for substance use disorders. Using lived experience and recovery principles, this role supports individuals from engagement through stabilization and long-term recovery by helping remove barriers, build support systems, and strengthen recovery skills. Key Responsibilities Partner with clients to develop and implement individualized Recovery Plans. Provide 1:1 peer support, mentoring, and guidance to support recovery goals. Assist clients in identifying and accessing recovery supports, self-help meetings, and community resources. Support harm reduction, abstinence goals, and education on medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Provide non-clinical crisis support, including post-hospitalization or post-incarceration. Conduct outreach in the community and by phone to encourage treatment engagement. Assist clients with applications for benefits, referral programs, and other services. Support clients in addressing social determinants of health impacting recovery. Accompany clients to appointments, court appearances, and support meetings as needed. Provide transportation using personal or agency vehicles. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of recovery plans and progress. Collaborate with community partners and interdisciplinary treatment team members. Participate in supervision, trainings, team meetings, and on-call coverage as scheduled. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of substance use disorders and recovery principles. Ability to build respectful, supportive relationships using peer engagement. Strong communication and documentation skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Comfort working independently and in community-based settings. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in human services or related field preferred. Eligible to work toward Certified Peer Recovery Advocate (CPRA) credential. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Must have lived experience with substance use disorder (SUD) and be in sustained recovery. Must pass required background checks. Work Environment Work is performed in both office and community settings. This is a tobacco- alcohol
