Job Description

Supervised by the Program Director, the Prevention Counselor works in schools and communities to facilitate substance use prevention services by providing prevention education with evidence-based and non-evidence-based programs, assessments, and group counseling for youth in a school setting. We are hiring for multiple roles The schools and communities are located in Columbia and Greene County. Reliable transportation needed.
Position Responsibilities:
Short term problem resolution focused assessment Network with other prevention and social service agencies within the region to include prevention, intervention, treatment, mental health, etc. in order to provide comprehensive services, identify needs, and make referrals as necessary. Participate in substance use/misuse awareness campaigns. Participate in community events for the purpose of providing substance use/misuse education and information activities. Document all program activities as required by
NYS OASAS
guidelines. Provide in-service training to school staff on topics appropriate to expertise, interest, and knowledge. Attend training, seminars, workshops, and classes to achieve required credentials and continuing education as required by the agency and
NYS OASAS.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director to meet program and agency objectives. Qualifications and Credentials /
Training:
•Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Health or related field is required with one year of work with youth. Evidence-based curriculum training must be obtained within 2 months of employment, and prior to service delivery. 15-hour Prevention Training must be completed within 6 months of employment, and annually thereafter. Minimum of Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) or CASAC credential must be obtained within 24 months of employment. Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) must be completed within 18 months of employment. Experience working with youth in school or community setting is required. •Pre-employment background check is required.
