Job Description
NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Job Responsibilities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The IPC works with considerable independence and reports to the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director. The Trauma Center IPC is responsible for the day-to-day management of the community outreach and injury prevention efforts of the trauma center. The IPC will collaborate with trauma center leadership to identify the top three injury prevention areas of focus, will develop programs to target these areas, and will collaborate with community partners to reduce the burden of injury from these sources. Develop and work within an annual budget for injury prevention, seeking external grant funding whenever possible. Collaborate with regional, state and national stakeholders to promote injury prevention, study injury, and actively participate in joint efforts. Promote staff safety and well-being through best practices in injury prevention. In conjunction with other trauma center staff, participate in regional outreach activities and educational programs. In conjunction with Orthopedic trauma services, assist in the care of older adults with fractures to promote best practices. Represent the trauma center on regional, state and national committees Train and support other staff and volunteers to participate in injury prevention programs and activities.Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
While ultimately reporting to the Trauma Medical Director/Trauma Program Manager, the IPC is also a licensed Physical Therapist. In their role as a Physical Therapist, the IPC will clinically report to the Director of Rehabilitation Services and abide by their departmental policies and procedures While the IPC's primary responsibility will be to the trauma center at Long Island Community Hospital, at present she will provide 2 clinical shifts/week to the Rehabilitation Department. If the IPC provides more than 2 clinical shifts/week to the Rehabilitation Department in her role as a Physical Therapist, she will be compensated for these services in-line with current compensation patterns for the other members of the Rehabilitation Department (e.g., anything more than 2 clinical shifts/week will be considered overtime) who are performing overtime clinical work. Should the IPC require a decrease in her clinical efforts to further support the Trauma Program, this will be communicated to the Director of Rehabilitation Services by the Trauma Medical Director.Minimum Qualifications:
NYS Physical Therapy License Required To qualify you must have a 1-3 years of experience working with injured persons Bachelors degree or higher in a health related profession Demonstrated ability to work independently Ability to present educational materials to adults in large and small groups, in both formal and informal settings. Ability to prioritize institutional objectives. Excellent written and oral communication skills Computer skills including excel, powerpoint and Microsoft word functions Awareness of basic principles of adult education Demonstrated ability to work within a team.
