Job Description

Disabled Persons Action Organization has an immediate opening for the position of Job Coach.
Schedule:
Hours/days will vary but will consist of Monday through Friday shifts with an occasional evening or weekend shift may be required to meet the needs of the individuals' work schedules. A 7-hour day will be required between the hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm. A 35-hour work week is standard for this position. Off-site trainings may be required through the OPWDD Innovations in Employment Supports training curriculum.
Rate of Pay:
$17.50-$18.50 hourly
Job Description:
The prospective employee will provide personalized job coaching services and supports according to the plan of each individual. Promote prevocational skills based on the individuals' vocational goals, interest and skills. Will work directly and provide hands-on assistance to an individual with a disability in a training or placement site to help them learn the specific requirements of the job. This may include learning work-related activities and requirements such as time and attendance rules and learning appropriate work related and social behaviors with supervisors and co-workers. Will use structured intervention techniques to help the employee learn to perform job tasks to the employer's specifications. The Job Coach provides immediate feedback, assistance and follow-up to the individual as they perform their assigned job duties.
Exemplary duties and responsibilities:
  • Use person centered planning to help identify strengths, skills and interests
  • Develop employment opportunities to match the right person with the right job
  • Help with creating a resume and preparing for job interviews
  • Assist with transportation needs
  • Will often accompany applicants to the interview
  • Help with learning the job duties and the work environment
  • Provide ongoing assistance through worksite visits
  • Assist with social interactions on the job
  • Can help individuals increase their hours or secure a new job
  • Assessment, Job Development, Counseling, Advocacy and other services needed to get or maintain employment
Benefits:
After a successful 90-day introductory period into this position, a generous paid time off package and affordable benefits will be available.
Benefits available for selection include:

Additionally, an agency-Funded Pension Plan is available to employees after four years of employment. Benefits selected may be deducted through weekly payroll checks.
Paid Time Off:
The agency's paid time off package includes vacation time after six months, 2 weeks of vacation after one year, 3 weeks of vacation after 5 years and 4 weeks of vacation after 10 years. Also, four personal days per year, 12 sick days per year, and 12 holidays off with pay. If required to work on a holiday based on the needs of the program, the holiday can be saved and used within the month.
Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency
  • Two (2) years of experience working with the developmentally disabled or a similar field (preferred)
  • Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of the supervision of adults with developmental disabilities (former Direct Support Professional experience required) and have good written, verbal and organization skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Driver License and have reliable transportation to and from work, as well as to transport individuals to and from work sites, and travel out of town to required trainings (mileage reimbursement is offered)
