Job Description

Who we are: Dauphin County Technical School is a full-time, comprehensive public career and technical high school proudly serving students from Dauphin County and surrounding areas. Our mission is to prepare students to enter post-secondary education and industry with the attitude, skills, and knowledge necessary to be successful in a constantly changing and competitive world. About the role:
Dauphin County Technical School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered School Counselor to join our Comprehensive High School team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting the academic, career, and social-emotional development of high school students in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) environment. This individual will work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and industry partners to help students achieve success in both their academic and career pathways. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing students for postsecondary education, workforce readiness, and lifelong success while fostering a supportive and inclusive school culture. Skills and experience that matter for this role: Qualifications Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field Valid Pennsylvania School Counselor certification (PK-12) or ability to obtain Experience working with high school students preferred Knowledge of academic planning, career readiness, and postsecondary pathways Understanding of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and workforce development preferred Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student advocacy Experience with crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and student support services Familiarity with student information systems and data management tools Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Physical Capabilities:
Ability to perform standard classroom duties which may involve walking, standing, sitting, bending, and reaching Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of supporting students with diverse needs
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide academic, career, and social-emotional counseling services to students Assist students with course selection, graduation planning, and career pathway development Support students in exploring postsecondary education, apprenticeships, military, and employment opportunities Collaborate with CTE instructors and academic staff to support student achievement and career readiness Conduct individual and group counseling sessions Respond appropriately to student crises and provide referrals to outside support services when necessary Monitor student progress, attendance, and graduation requirements Facilitate parent/student meetings and communicate effectively with families Coordinate standardized testing, college and career readiness activities, and scholarship opportunities Maintain accurate and confidential student records in compliance with school policies and regulations Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events Support initiatives that promote a positive school climate and student well-being
Salary:
This position offers a starting salary of $59,000 per year, with final compensation determined by experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided. This role starts at the beginning of the 26/27 in August 2026.
