This position is the lead support person for the Municipal Police Academy (MPA), reporting directly to the Director. Accurate and Timely procession of paperwork (instructor and course), strong customer service orientation, and administrative support of the academy mission is vital. This position requires a responsible, self-motivated individual who can function as a member of a team in a high volume and fast-paced environment. This position requires flexibility in work scheduled, multitasking, working with frequent interruptions, and meeting defined timelines for assigned tasks. This position provides administrative support to the contracted Law Enforcement Instructors certified by the Municipal Police Officers' Education and Training Commission (MPOETC). including processing of paperwork (instructor and course). This position is also responsible for performing various supportive duties for cadets enrolled and/or preparing for enrollment in the MPA. Primary Functions Primary point of contact for the
MPA:
review, validate, and process police academy applications, reports and record keeping as required by the MPOETC, generate instructor contracts, distribute course materials, books, equipment and paperwork, make classroom reservations, assist in setting up appointments to use the firearms range, gymnasium, fitness area, EVOC, etc. Coordinate and assist with required pre-enrollment assessments of applicants to the MPA. Point of contact for the contracted Law Enforcement Instructors certified by the MPOETC. Communicate daily through telephone and email with students and instructors to correct problems, provide information, and respond to customer inquiries. Assist staff with handling local level training processes changes, identifying needs, working to resolve issues, and identifying strategic planning initiatives. Assist with the day-to-day operations of the MPA as necessary in coordination with the Director, MPA, track and report student count. Minimum Requirements High School diploma and three (3) years of relevant administrative work experience or an Associate's degree in relevant field. Working knowledge of police/public safety training and/or law enforcement experience is highly preferred. Minimum of 3 years of relevant administrative support experience. Prior work experience in the public safety sector is highly desired. Proficient communication skills to include both written and verbal. Skilled in organization and detailed oriented. Ability to effectively and proactively plan and prioritize work activities with minimal supervision. Ability to set and meet deadlines. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive material.
