Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate BRIDGE Doula/Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) to join our dynamic team in Southern Illinois . This role is responsible for providing compassionate, trauma-informed support to pregnant and postpartum individuals with substance use disorders. This position combines the traditional duties of a certified doula with the responsibilities of a certified peer recovery specialist offering emotional support, advocacy, education, and linkage to services throughout pregnancy, labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. The specialist works collaboratively with the clinical team to promote substance use recovery, improve maternal and infant health outcomes, and support long-term stability. Responsibilities Provide prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum support using trauma-informed, culturally responsive practices. Assist clients in developing birth plans aligned with their needs, preferences, and recovery goals. Educate clients and families on pregnancy, childbirth, infant care, and postpartum recovery. Promote bonding, breastfeeding support, and healthy postpartum adjustment. Attend births as scheduled and postpartum experiences. Use lived experience and certified recovery support training to provide peer-based recovery coaching. Support clients in achieving recovery goals by offering encouragement, peer modeling, and accountability. Support clients during medical appointments, court hearings, or child welfare meetings when appropriate. Qualifications Certified Doula (DONA, CAPPA, ProDoula, or equivalent) required within one year of employment Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) or equivalent state-recognized peer certification, required within one year of employment Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder with at least two years of sustained recovery (per agency and certification requirements). Experience supporting pregnant individuals preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and recovery-oriented systems of care. Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, manage on-call responsibilities, and maintain flexible scheduling. Must pass background checks and meet state regulatory requirements. Valid driver's license and car insurance required. Reliable transportation and ability to drive during day time or evening hours required.
