Job Description

The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) is Carnegie Mellon University's centralized career services center providing a comprehensive range of services, programs and materials focusing on career exploration and decision-making, professional development, experiential learning and employment assistance to meet today's evolving and growing workplace and student goals of finding satisfying work. The CPDC has been recognized by the Princeton Review and Handshake as a leading university career development operation. Are you someone who is passionate about making a positive impact? Our CPDC department is seeking a Sr. Assistant Director and Career Consultant to work with graduate students within the School of Computer Science (SCS) at CMU. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated top performer with higher education and/or industry experience to demonstrate knowledge in a dynamic role within one of the most respected schools in the world. In this role, you will work closely with the existing CPDC team serving technical graduate students and focus on career development initiatives for students within various departments within the School of Computer Science. The connected culture between the CPDC and the School of Computer Science allows for the opportunity to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will build and grow positive relationships, not only with students, but also with department heads, academic advisors, faculty, and employers. CMU retains students from diverse backgrounds, so cultural sensitivity and competencies are critical to this position.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Assisting graduate students in assessing their career and professional development goals, building job search strategies, developing resumes, and practicing interviewing skills, etc. based on the CPDC Assess/Brand/Connect learning outcomes model Creating, organizing and presenting career-related programs, workshops, career fairs and online learning content. Cultivating potential and developing existing relationships with employers to understand industry trends and recruiting needs Building and growing positive relationships with department heads, academic advisors, and faculty. Communicating openly and frequently with these partners Some travel may also be required for employer outreach and development Other duties as assigned Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities within Carnegie Mellon University. Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Required experience: minimum 3-5 years of experience in college student development, career development, and/or counseling AND/OR in college recruiting or human resources management Analytical, organizational, reasoning, and problem-solving skills required In depth understanding of / experience with recruitment practices strongly preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills - especially in communicating to audiences from different cultures Ability to work independently on projects and function competently in a team environment required, time management and planning skills required Experience with Handshake CRM software and online content delivery programs (ex: Canvas) preferred A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

This position is operating on a hybrid schedule, with an on-campus/in office presence that fluctuates based on the academic calendar Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. An alternate work schedule allowing for evening and weekend hours will be required on occasion. We will begin review of applications immediately and will continue until an appointment is made.
