MAJOR PURPOSE
The Success Coach serves as a key student support professional, guiding undergraduate and/or graduate students from entry to completion with a holistic approach to academic, career, and personal development. This role combines proactive academic advising and individualized career coaching, with a focus on increasing student retention, persistence, and graduation rates. The Success Coach works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus partners to provide targeted interventions, resources, and encouragement to help students navigate their academic journey, connect their education to career goals, and achieve long-term success. Areas of focus include academic advising, degree planning, career coaching, holistic well-being, and spiritual formation ensuring timely registration, academic success, retention, and persistence towards completion of degree programs. Secondary areas include financial aid guidance, informal transcript evaluation, advocacy, and other general support services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, spirit of humility, emotional intelligence and interpersonal communication skills. This position is 100% on campus with some remote options with supervisor approval. This position requires occasional nights and weekends as needed to participate in commencement, student orientations and external meetings The pay range for this position is generally: $50,000 to $60,000 annual. Individual pay is generally determined by a number of factors including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training and location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides proactive, student-centered academic advising to support timely progression toward degree completion while fostering student development in alignment with Jessup's mission and values.
- Assists students in developing academic plans aligned with program requirements, institutional policies, personal goals, and career objectives.
- Monitors student academic performance, identifying at-risk students and implementing strategies to improve outcomes, persistence, and graduation rates. Educates students about university policies, procedures, resources, and academic support services, helping them navigate challenges with clarity and confidence.
- Encourages and coaches students through life events and obstacles with moral, spiritual, and prayerful support that promotes resilience, responsibility, and holistic growth.
- Engages students in career exploration and planning, connecting academic pathways with career callings and professional opportunities.
- Provides coaching on job search strategies, internship opportunities, resume writing, interviewing, personal branding, and preparation for graduate/professional school.
- Partners with the Career Services team to connect students to networking events, career fairs, mentoring opportunities, and employer outreach programs.
- Collaborates with faculty, Academic Success, Financial Aid, Student Life, and other departments to provide holistic and coordinated student support.
- Promotes student involvement in co-curricular, leadership, and service opportunities that strengthen academic engagement and spiritual formation.
- Uses data to identify trends, risk factors, and target populations for intervention, contributing to retention strategies and success initiatives.
- Tracks and reports key performance indicators related to student persistence, retention, and graduation within assigned caseload.
- Maintains accurate, timely documentation of advising and coaching interactions in the student information system (CRM) to inform data-driven decisions.
- Builds trusting relationships with students through consistent communication, encouragement, accountability, and faith-centered support.
- Participates in staff development, professional training, new student orientations, commencement, and other events as required.
- Remains current on best practices in student retention, career readiness, and faith-integrated education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certifications
- Bachelor's Degree Required; Master's Degree Preferred Required Knowledge/Experience
- Two years of experience in student services within a higher education or adult education environment strongly preferred or similar experience in customer service/public relations and familiarity with career and transfer pathways
- Proven and successful track record of strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to effectively and professionally engage people with empathy and tact. Must be especially comfortable operating with high levels of inbound/outbound calls, emails and texts with students.
- Knowledge of various course delivery models with corresponding student success strategies depending on individual learning styles and needs.
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated success in administrative projects and duties including time management, reporting, forecasting, and planning. Additionally, demonstrate competence in the use of CRM/ERP/SIS and/or Retention Software, Google Suite and/or MS Office applications Skills/Abilities
- Must maintain a positive, cooperative, and Christ-like attitude supportive of the University mission, especially in the area of helping students grow in their spiritual development through conversations and prayer.
- Ability to interpret and analyze student data in retention software and proactively contact students with engagement strategies including asking discovery questions, addressing student needs and finding appropriate student resources for student success.
- Willingness to work in a changing service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions including the motivation to work flexible additional hours to accommodate student needs.
- Displays self-confidence, patience, empathy, and availability when building rapport with students and colleagues; understands and adapts quickly to multi-generational needs and students of diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collaboratively across university departments that have diverse faculty/staff teams with the view towards increasing student engagement for learning.

WORKING CONDITIONS
