JOB PURPOSE
The Job Coach-Community supports participants' informed choice and self-determination through community-based employment and training opportunities. The Job Coach is expected to act as an appropriate role model at-all-times. Appropriate role model is defined as an individual who conducts him/herself in a manner that is professional, respectful, and mindful of the dignity, capability, and best interest of the Participant. A Job Coach should have good judgment as well as commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in the pursuit of the interests and enhancements of their potential, specifically in regard to their emerging vocational interests and skills as set forth in the Individual Service Plan (ISP). This position primarily supports community-based work programs with outside employers in the community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate with Career Coordinator, Service Coordinators and Associate Directors on all participant matters including potential job leads and emerging interests beyond current employment position Collaborate with employer(s) in facilitating the total work effort of participant Assist with the development and implementation of task and discrepancy analysis of all participant hires Counsel and train participant in all aspects of the job Implement strategies that facilitate the successful integration of the participant with cultural diversities into the workforce Network with similar personnel from other community-based professional organizations The Community Job Coach also supports Youth in Transition Services, to which they may work in educational settings, including schools and transition academies Observe participant rights per state and federal legislation and regulation Adhere to all agency, state, and federal policies Respect participant's decision even when in conflict with DSP views Transportation Keep appropriate participant(s) records Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required by the Fogarty Center and/or at the discretion of the supervisor Support self-determination and person-centered delivery of service Participate as an active and constructive team member in all aspects of work duties Role model appropriate behavior, ensure a safe environment, and respectfully represent the Fogarty Center at all times Communicate clearly and concisely with all professionals within participant team
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities Strong interpersonal skills, dependability, responsible, of strong character Abide by all HIPAA requirements to uphold participant confidentiality Motivated, eager to learn, and desire to improve Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language Competent in technological applications- basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn web-based portals Clear National criminal background check and Rhode Island Criminal background check (BCI), absent from the Office of Inspector General (OIG) exclusions list, a valid driver's license, and a good driving record High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Must be eighteen (18) years of age
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Community Job Coaches are required to transport participants in the Job Coach's personal vehicle during shift. Personal vehicle use as outlined on "DSP- All Departments" job description is required Possess certifications and competency in providing supported employment services and have a working knowledge of current job development best practices, or willing to enroll and complete state-approved employment supports training to obtain within nine months of hire. Expected to work flexible hours, including, but not limited to, nights and weekends May be asked to fill the role of the "Job Coach-KIC or Job Coach-WWC" as outlined in their perspective job descriptions
