Job Description
The Academic Success Coach provides individualized coaching, support, and outreach to an assigned caseload of students in order topromote persistence, academic recovery, and graduation. Success Coaches proactively support students through personalized intervention,academic planning, and collaboration with faculty and campus partners. In addition to guiding students through academic decision-making,each coach helps students identify and address barriers to success, whether those challenges are academic, personal, social, orinstitutional, by providing coaching, advocacy, and referrals to campus resources. Each coach also leads a distinct functional area withinthe Center for Student Success aligned with institutional retention goals. Each Academic Success Coach provides leadership in one ormore designated focus areas within the Center for Student Success. Early Alert s : Coordinates the College'sEarly Alert system by monitoring submissions, assigning outreach, and supporting faculty engagement. Tracks alert trends, evaluates outreacheffectiveness, and provides updates to inform institutional retention strategies.
Teaches assigned courses within the program and coordinates logistics in collaboration with campus partners. Oversees marketing, studentadmissions, event planning, and success coaching for Berry Beginnings participants. Conducts program assessment and prepares regular reportsto inform future development.
Peer Tutoring :
Manages thepeer tutoring program, including tutor recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision. Tracks participation and outcomes,collaborates with faculty to align support with academic needs, and supports student assistants in the Center.Programming andEvents :
Leads departmental workshops and events that promote academic success and student engagement. Coordinates eventlogistics, including scheduling, space reservations, marketing, and set-up. Partners with the Director of Career and ProfessionalDevelopment to assist with large-scale campus events. Tracks attendance, evaluates impact, and reports outcomes to inform planning.Berry Beginnings :
Provides leadership and instructional support for the Berry Beginnings summer bridge program.Teaches assigned courses within the program and coordinates logistics in collaboration with campus partners. Oversees marketing, studentadmissions, event planning, and success coaching for Berry Beginnings participants. Conducts program assessment and prepares regular reportsto inform future development.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Manage a caseload of assigned students, providingindividualized academic support, proactive outreach, and coaching that promotes self-efficacy, self-advocacy, and academic resiliencethroughout their college journey. Provide mentorship to assigned students , fostering strong coach-student relationships,encouraging personal growth, and promoting engagement with campus life and academic goals. Serve as the primary academicadvisor for exploratory/undeclared students during orientation and their first semester, assisting with course selection, registration,and academic planning. Support students in the process of major exploration , helping them identify strengths, interests,and career goals through coaching conversations and referral to relevant campus resources. Monitor academic progress andconduct proactive check-ins and follow-ups, using academic alerts, progress reports, and other student data to inform timely interventionsand support student success. Partner with faculty, academic advisors, Athletics, campus support offices, and other CSSstaff to address academic concerns, advocate for students, and ensure coordinated referrals to appropriate services. Conduct timely outreach and provide individualized suppo rt to assigned students flagged through academic alerts, early interventiondata, or other retention-related indicators. Facilitate academic intervention processes for students in academicdifficulty, including the development of success plans, regular progress monitoring, coordination with institutional support services, andassistance with academic appeals. Provide limited support for SAP appeals when appropriate, in coordination with the Office of FinancialAid. Engage in institutional committees and working groups that support student success, persistence, and campusengagement. Track and report on student engagement, academic interventions, and risk indicators (e.g., academic alerts,follow-up with unregistered students, or unmet support needs) to inform institutional retention strategies and provide regular updates tothe Assistant Dean. Represent the Center for Student Success at campus events, including orientation, recruitmentactivities, and student engagement initiatives. Partner with the Office of Admissions to support the transition ofstudents from prospective to enrolled status, particularly those identified as high-need or conditionally admitted, and assist in earlyengagement and onboarding efforts. Develop and distribute materials to raise awareness of Success Coach and Center forStudent Success services among students, faculty, and staff. Outreach efforts may include email campaigns, print materials, textcommunication, social media content, and other strategies to enhance visibility and engagement. Engage in professionaldevelopment activities that enhance coaching skills, promote innovation in student support, and contribute to the overall mission of theCenter for Student Success. Perform other duties as assigned in support of student success and institutional retentioninitiatives.EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
Bachelor's degree in education,counseling, student development, or a related field. Demonstrated ability to support a diverse student body through inclusive,student-centered coaching practices. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentialityand work effectively across departments and student populations.Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in highereducation, student affairs, education, counseling, or a related discipline. Experience in academic coaching, advising, mentoring, or studentsupport services within a college setting. Familiarity with early alert systems, retention data, and student success technology. Experiencewith program development, workshop facilitation, or peer support programs. Additional Information Occasional evening andweekend hours are required to support student programming, events, and outreach activities aligned with the College's academic calendar andstudent success initiatives.APPLICATION
