Summary:

Promotes patients' self-care and recovery maintenance. Provides outreach and screens patients for entry into medication-assisted treatment services as well as outpatient treatment. Networks with various individuals, agencies, and businesses to initiate and maintain referrals. Maintains electronic health records in compliance with all governing, regulatory, and contractual authorities. Participates in training to maintain skills, knowledge, and certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Serves as an active member of patients' treatment team and advocates for services requested by patients. 2. Cultivates patients' ability to make informed, independent choices; set goals and gain information and support from the community. Promotes and supports linkages for patients to the recovery community. 3. Assists patients with learning how to maintain stable housing and employment. Provides support and encouragement to both patients and their family members, and identifies mechanisms to increase their engagement. 4. Teaches patients effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Develops recovery plans to support patients as they transition out of treatment or between levels of care based on the wants, needs, and interests of participants.

Marginal Duties:

The Peer Recovery Coach may be called upon to provide transportation or other assistance for clients having difficulty accessing inpatient treatment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None Qualifications:

Must have a High school diploma or GED, recovery from an alcohol and/or other drug use disorder for a period of no less than two years and two years of active participation in a local or national self-help group or recovery movement are required. Requires certification by DAODAS as a Peer Support Specialist or the ability to achieve certification immediately upon employment.

Physical Demands:

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount to force frequently or constantly to utilize office equipment.
