Job Description

Responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance to students by assessing their needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences in order to guide them in a program of study. Advises students regarding information, procedures, and requirements of a specific program of study. Responsible for understanding and interpreting the College's policies and degree and certificate programs to help facilitate the student's academic success. Participates in recruitment and outreach activities. Provides support in the area to which the position is assigned. Associate's degree from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education required with four years' primary work experience in student services related programs such as admissions, registration, academic advising, financial aid/VA educational benefits, or student accounts. Or Bachelor's degree with two years' primary work experience in student services related programs such as admissions, registration, academic advising, financial aid/VA educational benefits, or student accounts. Bachelor's degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to offer excellent customer service and a passion to go above and beyond customer expectations. Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal skills. Demonstrate sensitivity to persons of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Proficiency in MS Words, Excel and PowerPoint. Ability to use student information systems. Be able to work as a team. Able to manage stress well and be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment. Be student-focused and exhibit a helpful and caring attitude. Ability to meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision. Advise new students and work closely with other student services staff to evaluate transcripts, test scores, and develop degree plans. Provide academic advising to returning students about College policies, programs of study and degree options. Establish and maintain relationships with assigned departments and maintain current knowledge of all degree and certificate programs and institutional policies and procedures. Assist students with admission and registration and provide guidance on course selection based on student's program of study or interests, skills, and abilities. Assist students in establishing realistic and attainable educational and career goals. Support career services by counseling students on career options and guiding their development of job search skills. Monitor student academic progress; determine student's eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree or certificate completion. Process academic warning, probation, and suspension forms based on student's academic status. Make referrals to other campus resources as needed. Interpret and explain college policies and procedures and present academic information to students and/or parents as needed. Be knowledgeable in nontraditional learning options such as CLEP, Advanced Placement exams, and CTC's Individualized Evaluation Career Process (ICEP) manual thus providing students with options to complete degrees and certificates. Assist students in making the transition to a four year college or university. Provide resources about admission and programs offered at a four year college or university. Establish working professional relationships with peers at four year colleges. Assists in recruitment of potential students through outreach activities such as CTC's Fast Track program at area high schools. Assist other departments in various activities such as student orientations and tours, job fairs, and foundation scholarship events. Actively participate in graduation ceremony and assist students and other staff. Responsible for functional area that may be assigned such as but not limited to community foreign student advisor, retention support counselor, transfer counselor, and vocational technical counselor. Participate on committees as requested and participate in professional conferences or other professional development activities. Perform other duties as assigned.
