Job Description

Peer Mentors in Accessibility Services work with students with disabilities to provide support in adjusting to college life while helping to develop skills and tools for success. Mentors meet weekly with their assigned students throughout the school year to set and follow up on goals, build self-advocacy skills and explore campus resources and more. Students hired for this position must be able to attend a 10 hour mentor training prior to working with students. Meet weekly with assigned students Works with assigned students to set and follow up on goals Assists students in addressing needs relating to time management, organization, or interpersonal communication Provides a safe and supportive environment for students to share needs and struggles Supports students in developing self-advocacy skills Attends regular group learning activities Completes notes and keep up to date with all required documentation Must be available to complete 10 hour mentor training Attends regular one on ones and staff meetings Must be a current UVU student Minimum 2.8 GPA Must have completed at least two semesters of higher education Must be available to work up to 10 hours per week Ability to research and problem solve Strong time management and organizational skills Strong verbal and written communication skill Preferred Qualifications Interest in supporting other students Basic knowledge of UVU resources Knowledge of time management, organization and self-advocacy related resources and tools
