Job Description

Under general supervision, advises and counsels students with disabilities at Salt Lake Community College ( SLCC ) regarding their academic and career choices in light of their disabilities. Approves, evaluates and monitors ADA accommodations, services and progress for students with disabilities. Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators at SLCC to ensure equal access for students with disabilities. Utilizing professional judgment, determine eligibility for services by gathering and reviewing information through the informational meeting, medical documentation, first hand reporting and professional observation and analysis. Provide ongoing advising and guidance to students with disabilities on assigned caseload. Coordinate accommodations with faculty, staff and other College departments, providing consultation, intervention and training as needed. Participate on College committees as assigned. Participate in ongoing professional development. Utilize professional judgment, determine eligibility for services by gathering and reviewing information through the informational meeting, medical documentation, firsthand reporting and professional observation and analysis. Provide ongoing advising and guidance to students with disabilities on assigned caseload. Coordinate accommodations with faculty, staff and other College departments, providing consultation, intervention and training as needed.
Knowledge of:
Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Various disabilities, functional limitations, accommodations, services and assistive technology. Education and career advising and planning for individuals with disabilities.
Ability to:
Interpret disability documentation, which includes medical reports, psychological evaluations, vocational evaluations, IEP's, 504 plans, etc. Interact with varied people in a respectful and inclusive manner. Handle confidential documents and information. Build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and community members. Communicate effectively. Database management, spreadsheets and Banner. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Bachelor's degree with emphasis in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, career development and training, psychology, social work or a closely related field. One (1) year full-time experience (or equivalent part-time) advising, counseling, or training individuals with disabilities. Master's Degree with emphasis in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, career development and training, psychology, social work or a closely related field.
