Job Description Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) is located in historic Abingdon, VA and proudly serves the residents of Washington County, western Smyth County, and the city of Bristol, VA. The College offers comprehensive instruction to more than 3,000 students annually, awarding associate degrees, certificates, career studies certificates, and workforce credentials. VHCC also offers a wealth of dual enrollment opportunities for regional high school students. As part of that initiative, the College seeks applicants for three full time VHCC Navigator positions to recruit, advise, and guide high school students towards positive career and educational goals from first course
Position Responsibilities:
Work directly on site at high schools to assist students with post-secondary academic/career planning for VHCC's programs;
Provide direct support for VHCC dual enrollment programming at the high school, including advising, retention, and graduation progress efforts;
Assist VHCC dual enrollment students with using MyVHCC, including email, SIS, Navigate, and Canvas;
Utilize EAB Navigate or Salesforce to record notes on support/advising activities;
Work with the VHCC Recruiter and the VHCC Dual Enrollment Coordinator to plan and lead events at the high schools;
Partner with VHCC staff to schedule and lead VHCC campus tours and other events;
Guide perspective students through the VHCC admissions and financial aid processes;
Assist with graduation applications and the transition from high school to VHCC;
Attend regular meetings with the DE Coordinator, Recruitment Coordinator, program chairs, and/or program deans as determined by the supervisor.
This is not a telework position. This is a restricted grant funded position. Salary firm.
Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution;
Valid driver's license;
Expressed willingness and ability to travel between area high schools and the VHCC campus;
Excellent interpersonal skills to connect, engage, and maintain effective relationships with students and staff;
Ability to work independently and as an effective teammate in a fast-paced environment to efficiently complete multiple project deadlines and assigned tasks;
Excellent communication skills;
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills;
Expressed willingness to learn and utilize computer systems vital to the role, including the use of Salesforce, Navigate, and SIS (training will be provided);
Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the mission of Virginia Highlands Community College;
Demonstrated understanding of VHCC's Dual Enrollment program.
Additional Considerations Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution;
Experience working with high school students;
Experience in a community college setting.
