SCOPE OF WORK
The Coach Advocate position will provide comprehensive and culturally competent support services using academic coaching methodologies designed to ensure the academic success of students as measured by meaningful academic engagement, college and career readiness, and graduation rates to NWIC students. The Coach Advocate will also provide in-person and distance modality workshops to students in a variety of topics such as study skills, academic planning, internships, research and non-cognitive skills, etc. The Coach Advocate will work with students to provide academic tutoring, advice and assistance in postsecondary course selection, education/counseling to improve financial and economic literacy, information and assistance in applying for Federal Student Aid and scholarships, and/or assistance in applying for admission to Graduate School in support of college and career readiness learning experiences, comprehensive academic support services, social services and activities, including individualized post-secondary plans, goals, and objectives combined with applying vocationally specific experience and training to support student learning.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Coach Advocate will provide consistent and appropriate academic, personal, transfer, and career counseling to participants to increase persistence, retention and graduation rates; Act as a liaison for academic support services such as tutoring, library services, Math and Writing Center, and distance learning support; Provide students with timely and accurate educational information on degrees, certificates, courses, college policies and procedures, campus and community resources; identify options for students to satisfy degree requirements, evaluate and make recommendations on changes to student programs of study, and assist students to completion; Communicate with instructors, Academic Advisors, Department Chairs, and other internal programs and external agencies, including FYE, to provide students with needed support and guidance. Guide students in development of effective problem solving skills, self-advocacy (empowerment), goal setting, and personal responsibility; Coordinate the college's intervention strategies; develop, implement, and coordinate intervention and success strategies, including support and training of Peer Connector Interns, related to the college's Satisfactory Academic Progress policy. Support and training of Peer Connector Interns, Attend all Site Coordinator meetings and present information as needed. Creates, disseminates and collects student surveys aimed at providing feedback on program and/or students' needs; Utilizes data to guide interventions and monitors effectiveness and student progress; Works with the Institutional Research Department personnel in compiling data to assist in proposals and grant writing; Assists faculty and staff in identifying trends and researching best practices in student persistence and retention.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities, although may provide support and guidance for student employees.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree required in education, student affairs administration, counseling, social work, psychology, or a relevant field A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in higher education programs related to programs with a similar objective, student development, or academic advising. Previous work experience and skills in mentoring, tutoring. or counseling with experience and knowledge of learning strategies, accommodations for diverse populations, including academically disadvantaged students, is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with first-generation, limited income, ethnically diverse individuals or college students and groups and/or persons with disabilities Experience working with Native Americans in a tribal college or in the community Previous academic/organizational program development experience Previous counseling/coaching training and experience
