Faculty Counselor Salary $78,452.00 - $90,138.00 Annually Location Lakewood, WA Job Type Full-time, regular Job Number 2627F07 Direct Report Unit Student Success Opening Date 04/02/2026 Closing Date 4/19/2026 11:59 PM Pacific FLSA Exempt Bargaining Unit FA Description Benefits Questions Position Objective The Faculty Counselor provides advising and counseling services to new and continuing students from New Student Orientation (NSO) through program completion. This position supports students in understanding degree and certificate pathways, navigating academic requirements, and addressing challenges related to academic warning, satisfactory academic progress, and early alert referrals. The Faculty Counselor is responsible for tracking and monitoring student progress, delivering targeted support services, and collaborating with instructional programs to promote academic success and completion. This position aligns with the college's mission by advancing educational access and supporting student success through intentional retention and completion strategies. The starting salary will be between $78,452-$81,049. Duty:
Provide retention and completion services to current students.Tasks include:
Counselor will be assigned to specific technical programs and/or general academic classes and will provide supports through individual advising as well as group advising in the classroom to provide information regarding: education planning, registration preparation, certificate and/or degree completion, graduation requirements, career pathways, and campus departments and resources. Provide counseling and brief intervention for students experiencing issues affecting career and educational achievement, and refer to appropriate community resources as necessary. Provide support services to special populations, as assigned, which may include monitoring data and completing required reporting. (Example:
Running Start, Workfirst, Worker Retraining, Foster Youth, etc.) Provide instruction for college success skills such as: stress management, career planning, goal setting, etc., to individual students, groups, and classrooms as appropriate. Respond to program inquiries in person, by phone, through email, or other remote methods. Utilize reports and data to inform intervention planning to increase academic success, retention, and completion.Duty:
Provide support to instructors in their assigned programs.Tasks include:
Collaborate with instructors in assigned programs to stay informed regarding changes to curriculum and understanding how changes may affect education plans, scope and sequence, catalog, certificate/degree and completion requirements for students. Serve as a point of contact for instructors in assigned programs regarding follow up for students on academic warning, satisfactory academic progress, those flagged for early alert, and those facing other barriers to successful retention and completion. Monitor student academic progress and provide interventions to support students not making academic progress. Demonstrate advising tools to faculty.Duty :
Outreach Tasks include : Provide workshops, seminars, and outreach activities as needed to support the college mission. Provide outreach to local high schools, homeschool co-ops and other appropriate venues about the college and/or special populations as assigned. (Example:
Running Start, Foster Youth, Veterans, Etc.).Duty:
Engage in professional development and college initiatives Tasks include: Maintain best practices in advising/counseling by participating in training, networking, and other professional development activities. Participate in college committees and meetings as appropriate. Develop effective working and consultative relationships with students, staff, faculty, and community resource agencies. Assist with college new student orientation activities. Advise prospective and new students as back-up to Outreach and Entry Services Dept. Utilize CPTC's customer service model. Participate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Educational Psychology, or related field. Two years' experience advising/counseling, preferably in higher education. Experience teaching and/or giving presentations or workshops. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with people from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds Professional preparation in counseling and/or student development theory Obtained licensure (ie…LMHC, MFT, MSW, etc.) 4.
