Job Description
Job Summary The Caregiver role is responsible for providing nonmedical, inhome support services that promote the comfort, safety, and overall wellbeing of clients. This position focuses on assisting individuals in maintaining independence within their own homes by offering personal care, companionship, and essential household support. Caregivers provide general supervision and social engagement for clients who may need encouragement, reassurance, or light guidance to ensure a safe, clean, and orderly living environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, dependable, and genuinely committed to helping others maintain dignity and quality of life. Qualifications A high school diploma or GED is preferred, along with satisfactory completion of any required or mandated training. Caregivers must successfully complete the Comfort Keepers training and orientation program and demonstrate a willingness to learn and follow all Comfort Keepers policies and procedures. The ability to function independently within a client's home while maintaining professionalism is essential. Candidates must be dependable, trustworthy, and maintain positive working relationships with administrative staff, clients, and their families. A sincere interest in helping others, strong ethical standards, honesty, and integrity are critical to success in this role. Essential Functions Caregivers perform duties as outlined in each client's individualized plan of care. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, grooming, oral hygiene, ambulation, and transfers when appropriate. Caregivers help maintain a safe and healthy home environment by performing light housekeeping tasks, including laundry, changing bed linens, and general household upkeep. Nutritional support may include meal planning, preparation, grocery shopping, and kitchen cleanup. Caregivers also provide medication reminders for selfadministered medications and offer companionship and emotional support. Accurate documentation of services provided is required, along with timely reporting of any changes in a client's physical, mental, or emotional condition to a supervisor. Caregivers are expected to maintain confidentiality at all times and participate in training, inservice education, staff meetings, and client conferences as requested. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Candidates must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, communicate clearly, and document services accurately. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, adaptability, organization, and a commitment to confidentiality are essential. Caregivers should demonstrate initiative, compassion, and a proactive approach to supporting others. Work Environment and Physical Demands This position is based in a client's home and may require the use of a personal vehicle. The role involves moderate physical effort, including standing, walking, bending, crouching, assisting with mobility, and light housekeeping. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Exposure to bodily fluids may occur, requiring adherence to safety and infectioncontrol practices.
