Role:
The Behavioral Respite Caregiver provides direct, in-home and community-based respite services for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role focuses on ensuring each individual's safety, dignity, and engagement while providing temporary relief to caregivers and families. Under the guidance of a supervising Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the caregiver helps implement behavioral strategies and supports designed to promote independence, communication, and positive behavior. This position is ideal for compassionate, patient individuals who enjoy working with children, teens, or adults with special needs and want to make a meaningful difference in their daily lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage individuals in safe, structured, and supportive activities aligned with their Individual Program Plan (IPP) and behavioral respite care plan.
- Implement behavioral strategies and interventions as directed by the supervising BCBA.
- Support individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as hygiene, feeding, mobility, and recreation.
- Collect and document data on client behaviors, participation, and any incidents during sessions.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, caregivers, and team members regarding progress or concerns.
- Follow behavior safety plans, crisis prevention strategies, and all agency protocols related to confidentiality, mandated reporting, and Title 17 compliance.
- Participate in ongoing training, including First Aid/CPR, crisis management, and behavioral fundamentals. Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree or higher in human, social, or educational services preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 months of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Experience with challenging behaviors (e.g., aggression, self-injury, elopement) preferred.
Certification & Requirements:
- Completion of Inspira Health's Behavioral Respite Training Program (minimum 30 hours).
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- TB clearance and physical exam before start date.
- Live Scan fingerprint clearance (DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index).
- Reliable transportation and valid California Driver's License with proof of insurance (if transporting clients).
Requirements:
- Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum or other developmental disabilities.
- Ability to pass a level two background check .
- Negative tuberculosis (TB) test .
- CPR/First Aid certification .
- Verifiable work references .
- Immunization & COVID-19 vaccination requirements (unless exempt).
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift 20-50 lbs., and perform physical tasks as needed. Benefits:
