Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Caregiver to provide specialized support and care to individuals with special needs. The ideal candidate will have experience working with clients who have physical, developmental, or intellectual disabilities, ensuring their well-being, safety, and overall quality of life. This role requires patience, understanding, and the ability to foster a nurturing environment that promotes the client's independence and dignity.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal Care:
Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, ensuring that the client's hygiene and comfort are always prioritized.
Mobility Assistance:
Aid clients with mobility, including the use of walkers, wheelchairs, and other assistive devices, ensuring safety during transfers and movements.
Developmental Support:
Engage clients in activities that promote cognitive and motor skills development, tailored to their individual abilities and preferences.
Emotional and Social Support:
Provide companionship, fostering a positive, trusting relationship. Assist in facilitating social activities and encouraging the client's participation in the community.
Communication:
Work closely with family members, healthcare professionals, and other support workers, keeping them informed of any changes in the client's condition and ensuring coordinated care.
Household Management:
Assist with light housekeeping duties, meal preparation according to dietary needs, and maintaining a safe, clean environment for the client.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
Prior experience working with individuals with special needs, particularly those with physical or intellectual disabilities.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent required; specialized training in caregiving, disability support, or nursing is a plus.
Certifications:
Certification in CPR is required. Additional certifications such as specialized training in autism, Down syndrome, or other disabilities are highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, and a positive attitude. Ability to handle challenging behaviors calmly and respectfully. Excellent communication skills for liaising with family and healthcare teams.
Physical Stamina:
Must be able to lift and support clients with mobility challenges.
Additional Requirements:
Background Check:
Successful completion of a background check.
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
CPR Certification:
Current certification in CPR.
Flexibility:
Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
