In-Home & Community-Based Support (Whittier, CA) T is seeking an energetic, reliable, and compassionate Support Staff Professional to assist him live a full, athletic, and adventure-filled life. Meet T... T is a 41-year-old man with cerebral palsy and Dravet Syndrome who brings serious determination to everything he does. He's athletic, motivated, and refuses to let his challenge limit his goals. He swims 2-3 times weekly, loves to go on runs and walks, rides a tandem road bike, participates in triathlons, and loves mixing in fun outdoor outings and educational adventures. T's Dravet Syndrome includes seizures, and support staff will receive training and guidance related to health and safety needs as outlined in his care plans. Safety, respect, and person-centered support are core to how T's and his team approach daily life and activities. What We Mean by "Athletic" This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys movement and can safely keep up with an active day. Athletic can include any of the following: regular swimming, running, cycling, hiking, strength training, coaching, or similar. You do not need to be an elite athlete. You should be comfortable being on your feet, assisting with mobility, and participating in active outings. This is a hands-on role for someone who's comfortable providing a high level of personal care and who can support T's mobility and safety while he uses a gait belt. T is approximately 95 lbs. You'll be part of a supportive home environment where person-centered care, respect, and teamwork matter. A solid foundation in healthy living and nutrition is a big plus. What You'll Do... Support Staff provide hands-on care and guidance at home and in the community, following T's Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
Responsibilities include:
  • Assist with personal care and hygiene routines (feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting).
  • Support safe mobility and movement using a gait belt and steadying assistance.
  • Plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals; help maintain a clean and organized home environment.
  • Support health and safety at home and out in the community and facilitate daily movement, exercise, swimming, and active outings.
  • Provide light pet care as needed, including feeding and occasional walks for Harry the dog.
  • Balance T's preferences, goals, dignity, and safety in every activity.
  • Encourage independence, self-advocacy, and meaningful community involvement.
  • Maintain professionalism, reliability, clear communication, and a positive attitude.
  • Document daily activities and key events clearly and consistently.
Pay and Schedule:
  • $23.00/hour or DOE
  • Part-time or full-time available, immediate hire.
  • Shifts are available Monday-Friday (mornings, afternoons, evenings).
  • Sunday evening shifts are a possibility as well.
  • Possible future overnight shifts/coverage available as well.
  • Flexible scheduling may be available.
Driving and Travel:
  • Use of your personal vehicle is required (travel between Los Angeles County and Orange County).
  • Travel reimbursement: $0.
70 per mile while traveling with T.
Who You Are:
  • Open heart + open mind, willing to learn and grow in person-centered care.
  • Experience with personal care preferred.
  • 18+ and legally able to work in the U.S..
  • College education preferred.
  • Able to clear a background check; Live Scan fingerprinting required (candidate financially responsible if selected for hire). ("90 Day

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain.
  • Valid California driver's license, proof of insurance, and safe driving record.
  • Vehicle in safe working condition, able to transport an adult wheelchair, and pass vehicle safety check.
  • Strong communication skills and consistent documentation ability.
  • Working phone with call and text capabilities.
  • Willing to pursue additional training/certifications as needed.
  • Must be able to maintain short, clean nails for safe hands on personal care and hygiene support.
