Responsibilities:

The Personal Care Worker (PCW) provides essential non-medical services to clients in their homes, assisting with daily living activities, maintaining a safe and healthy environment, and offering companionship. This role is crucial in supporting individuals' well-being and independence, adhering to agency policies and service plans.

Client Care & Safety:

Arrive on time and prepared for visits. Demonstrate knowledge of and follow the client's care plan. Maintain a safe environment for the client, including clear pathways and proper equipment use. Practice proper infection control, including hand hygiene and glove use. Demonstrate appropriate body mechanics when assisting clients. Maintain client privacy and confidentiality. Observe and report any environmental concerns or changes in the consumer's status that may impact safety and security. Report any observed or stated changes in the consumer's physical, cognitive, and/or developmental status.

Personal Care Tasks:

Assist with non-medical activities of daily living, including bathing, skin care, hair care, mouth care, shaving, dressing, feeding, assistance with ambulation, exercises and transfers, positioning and incontinence care. Provide medication reminders (not administration). Assist in the use of specific adaptive equipment if required. Household & Other Tasks (Homemaking Duties): Perform routine light house cleaning, meal preparation, dishwashing, and bed making. Prepare meals according to the client's dietary needs and ensure food safety and hygiene. Assist with feeding if necessary. Assist in completing activities outside the home, such as shopping or laundry. Provide companionship, including social interaction, conversation, emotional reassurance, and encouragement of activities that stimulate the mind.

Documentation & Professionalism:

Installation of ShiftCare application on personal device for documentation/client record keeping (Stipend provided based on hours worked bi-weekly). Complete appropriate service notes in ShiftCare regarding service provision for each visit, including confirmation of services provided and the date and time in and out. Document observations, tasks performed, and any changes accurately and thoroughly in ShiftCare. Communicate effectively with the client and supervisor. Demonstrate a respectful and compassionate demeanor. Respond appropriately to client's needs and requests. Maintain professional boundaries. Report concerns/issues to the HCA supervisor in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Completion of agency training before independently providing services to consumers. Initial training includes personnel duties and responsibilities, rules for non-medical care, differences in homemaker and personal care, consumer rights, basic health and safety, assignment and supervision of services, communication skills, and understanding the needs of populations served. Core competency evaluation of homemaking and housekeeping skills. Ongoing training as required by agency policy.

Supervision:

Supervision will occur at a minimum of every three (3) months and must include an assessment of consumer satisfaction with services and the worker's competence and adherence to the service plan.
