Butler Rescue Hands, Inc. Butler Rescue Hands, Inc. is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide individualized support services for a female adult receiving services through the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS). We are looking for a patient and motivated professional who is committed to promoting independence, community inclusion, personal growth, and a high quality of life in both home and community settings. Special Considerations This position involves supporting a female individual with communication and mealtime support needs. Candidates with experience in the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: Fluent Spanish-speaking abilities ( required ) American Sign Language (ASL) knowledge ( preferred ) Dysphagia and swallowing disorder support Safe feeding and mealtime assistance Recognition of choking and aspiration risks Understanding of eating disorders and food-related behavioral concerns Experience supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder Experience providing person-centered supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities The ideal candidate will be patient, attentive, safety-focused, and committed to promoting independence while ensuring the individual's health, dignity, and well-being. Position Responsibilities Provide one-on-one support based on the individual's goals, preferences, and needs Assist with community outings, recreational activities, and social engagement Support daily living skills, independence, and personal development Encourage participation in community-based activities and meaningful experiences Provide supervision and ensure the individual's health, safety, and well-being Assist with meals and follow all prescribed dining and feeding guidelines Monitor for signs of swallowing difficulties, choking risks, or other mealtime concerns Transport the individual to appointments, activities, and community events as needed Follow all DDS regulations, agency policies, behavior support plans, and individualized support plans Complete accurate and timely documentation, progress notes, and communication logs Maintain professional communication with the individual, family members, guardians, and agency staff Promote dignity, respect, and person-centered supports at all times Requirements Fluent Spanish speaking required - the individual primarily communicates in Spanish Active CPR and First Aid Certification (Required) Autism Training and/or Certification (Required) Proof of all certifications and training must be provided during the interview and onboarding process Valid Connecticut Driver's License Clean driving record Reliable transportation Ability to pass a criminal background check Strong communication and documentation skills Professional, dependable, and compassionate attitude Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Comfortable supporting individuals in both home and community settings Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) strongly preferred Experience supporting individuals with dysphagia, swallowing disorders, and specialized mealtime supports preferred Understanding of eating disorders, food-related behavioral concerns, and safe feeding practices Ability to recognize signs of choking, aspiration, and other mealtime safety concerns Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Experience implementing behavioral support strategies and promoting positive outcomes Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills What We Offer Competitive pay Flexible scheduling Supportive management team Ongoing training and professional development opportunities Meaningful and rewarding work that positively impacts the lives of others Opportunities for advancement within the organization If you are passionate about helping others achieve greater independence and success in their daily lives, we encourage you to apply and join our growing team.
