Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Group Home Staff Job Summary Join our team as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), where you will provide compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a residential group home setting. This rewarding role focuses on promoting independence, dignity, safety, and community inclusion while assisting residents with daily living activities and individualized goals. Direct Support Professionals play a critical role in enhancing quality of life and helping individuals achieve their highest level of independence. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct care and supervision to residents in accordance with their Individual Support Plan (ISP) and implementation plan. Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, meal preparation, and personal hygiene. Support residents in developing independent living skills, social skills, and community integration opportunities. Document daily activities, progress notes, behavior data, incidents, and other required records accurately and timely. Administer medications as trained and authorized, following agency policies and medication administration procedures. Implement positive behavior support strategies and approved behavior plans when applicable. Monitor residents' health, safety, and well-being and promptly report concerns to supervisors. Assist with transportation to medical appointments, recreational activities, employment sites, shopping, and community outings. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment that meets agency and regulatory standards. Participate in resident house meetings, recreational activities, and skill-building programs. Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and crisis situations while ensuring resident safety. Protect resident rights, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times. Communicate effectively with family members, guardians, support coordinators, healthcare providers, and other team members. Complete required trainings and maintain certifications as required by agency, APD, AHCA, and Medicaid Waiver regulations. Qualifications and Skills High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred. Knowledge of person-centered supports and positive behavior support practices. Ability to complete accurate documentation and electronic records. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. CPR, First Aid, Medication Administration Validation, and APD-required trainings preferred or willingness to obtain. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to assist with lifting, transferring, and supporting individuals as needed. Reliable, compassionate, patient, and committed to providing high-quality care. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist residents throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with transfers when necessary. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Work Environment This position operates within a residential group home environment and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, overnight shifts, and community-based activities. Staff are expected to maintain professionalism, ensure resident safety, and promote a positive home atmosphere at all times.
