Job Description
Full Time, $13.00 per hour, Sleepover Night Shift Sunday through Thursday nights 10:00pm-6:00am Reports to: House Manager /
Residential Program Manager Position Summary:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) works directly with people with physical disabilities and/or intellectual disabilities to assist the Individual to become integrated into his/her community or the least restrictive environment. The DSP is responsible for the Individual's care needs and surroundings. The DSP provides appropriate training, instruction, and supervision to Individuals participating in the day program or residential services and community-based activities. The DSP is familiar with and conducts business in such a way that reflects the agency's mission. The DSP follows and implements the Individual Service Plan and Healthcare Management Plan for each of the Individuals and demonstrates patience and tact.Duties and Responsibilities:
Timely documentation is required daily. Ensure thorough and accurate documentation of services is completed and submitted daily at the time services are rendered during each shift before the shift ends. This includes but is not limited to daily notes, goal implementation, community integration, supervision of self-administration of medication, healthcare tracking, incident reports, and transportation reports. Tell an accurate story of services, supports, care, and treatment rendered using person-first language and the Individual's response. Protect the individual and their rights. Comply with legal regulations and ensure that confidentiality is upheld. Provide adequate and accurate services, support, care, and treatment, such as observing and reporting changes in the Individual's condition. Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as, but not limited to, money management, social skills, communication, personal hygiene, continence management, eating, ambulation, shopping, maintaining a safe environment, managing prescribed medications, preparing meals, encouraging proper nutrition and fluid intake, and companionship and mental support. Encourage and teach the Individuals to perform life skills activities such as preparing food, removing trash, organizing, washing dishes, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and other cleaning duties to keep a sanitary and tidy area. Run errands as directed, such as shopping, picking up/delivering medications or supplies, taking the company vehicle to be washed, and accompanying Individuals for professional services, including but not limited to hair care, nail care, dry cleaning, medical appointments, etc. Respect the rights and responsibilities entitled to each individual. Deal with constant interruptions with tact. Address the Individuals and others with dignity and respect. Consistently engage in a friendly, positive manner with the Individuals, friends, and family of the Individuals, community members, visitors, stakeholders, and co-workers, displaying courtesy always. Support Individuals in their personal growth and development, respecting cultural, ethnic, spiritual, and individual differences. Maintain objectivity, setting appropriate and respectful boundaries and limits while working with the Individuals. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a variety of staff members regardless of varied ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Follow the agency's Code of Conduct, Dress Code, Mission, and Policies and Procedures. Practice good housekeeping and follow all workplace and community-based safety rules. Monitor proper food storage, refrigeration, and kitchen appliance safety. Perform emergency drills regularly as scheduled and may record results of drills as assigned. Observe Universal Precautions and infection control practices to maintain a clean and safe environment. Provide safe transportation and abide by transportation laws and speed limits. Ensure Individuals are not left unattended in vehicles or while vehicles are being refueled. Use agency vehicles for agency business only and not for personal use. Keep agency vehicles clean inside and out. No eating/drinking in SMILE vehicles. Record mileage. Observe and report maintenance needs to management promptly. Report vehicle accidents to management promptly, as well as call 911. Attend all required meetings and training sessions to advance knowledge and skills. Provide the required documents for the personnel file as requested. Demonstrate reliability and dependability in attendance and punctuality by reporting to work on time and not leaving work until the assigned shift ends or unless otherwise approved by management. Always provide management with proper notification and advance notice for absence and tardiness. Report all client falls, injuries, and changes in condition immediately and directly by phone to designated management, administrator, and/or nursing services. Perform other duties as assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a home setting. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, bend, twist, kneel, push, and pull as well as see, talk, and hear. The employee may frequently move to interact with fellow employees, visitors, and/or clients. Additionally, the employee may be required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees may be required to work at any location as needed and be responsible for their transportation to and from these locations.Qualifications:
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) must complete and maintain ongoing required training and demonstrate an understanding and practical competency of such training. The DSP must maintain current negative results for TB testing/screening, current CPR and First Aid AED certification, a satisfactory national background check, a current, valid Georgia driver's license with an acceptable driving record report, and current proof of motor vehicle insurance in the personnel file.
